I was thinking recently about how I am so much better at writing the ‘slow burn’ part of the slow burn romance, and not so much the ‘romance’ part, and I don’t know, maybe this is because of who I am as a person, but I also realized that my constant and never-ending desire for more and more and more angst is because I want the story to go on for longer and I get bored when the characters finally are happy and together and in love.
I want a happy ending, because my heart is fragile, but I want that shit off-screen. “And they lived happily ever after,” indeed. Let me enjoy their suffering for 100k words, and then they can be happy for about 15k before they metaphorically ride off into the sunset while I search for another angst-ridden slow burn.
I think there’s something wrong with me.
