thinking about how even in death, Yellow is defined through John.
If we look past Yellow-is-once-again-dimminished-as-a-chaarcter-and-his-happy-ending-is-taken-away-for-no-fucking-reason, the tragedy of Yellow never being his own person and always defined through his connection with John or King.
Like, he was killed because it was a way to hurt John without actually hurting John. He didn't die as Yellow, or as the King, he died as a copy of John, as a safety net for John if Arthur were to die. The only importance of Yellow is him being the other half of the King that still remains in the Dreamlands. A Chechov's gun waiting patiently on the wall to be used and then forgotten about.
I don't know, man. It's just so sad. Of course, Yellow wouldn't get the importance of humanity, considering how Arthur treated him (and yet he liked dancing). Of course, Yellow wouldn't get a chance to see more of human life if Larson treated him like that (and yet he yearned for what John had). Of course, he would be regarded as just a King in Yellow with no memories, while John gets the grace of a choice to become someone else (John is a piece and Yellow is whole. He gets the blame). Of course, Yellow would go back to being King because it was the only way for him to have some kind of power for himself (to build protective walls around him, to build Carcosa once again)
Of course, when they meet Arthur again, Yellow wants to see how Arthur treats another voice in his head. Of course.
Maybe he didn't want to fight with Kayne, because no matter what happens, everything will remain the same for him. If the reality is saved - he is still Yellow, still the King, still in the Dreamlands. If the reality is destroyed - there is no King in Yellow, and therefore no him.
And even this choice is denied to him, because Kayne wanted to hurt John without actually hurting him.
