NO GOOD-BYE WORDS PART II: SILVER
A/N: This is No Good-Bye Words Part II. I was wrong, the explanation of why Finnick and Percy are brothers on the next chapter (Not written yet, expect it by wednesday maybe) THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT ON PART I, LOVE YOU. -A
PART II
Plutarch Heavensbee was nuts. But when Annabeth had locked eyes with Percy, he knew they couldnât stand still while the rest of Panem was suffering and dying. In the other hand, they also knew a rebellion couldnât just start. They needed backup, people who needed to be free just as them. Couples who wanted their kids to have a peaceful childhood without the games, parents who had lost their children in the arena, victors whoâd killed someoneâs child to survive, brothers and sisters who missed their fallen relatives.
Fifty, forty-nine, forty-eightâ
Percy placed his lips on Annabethâs soft-kissable lips. They were lying down at the beach, Annabethâs head resting on Percyâs shoulder. The moonlight made her eyes look like silver, tiny shining stars looking straight to his eyes. He felt safe next to her, as if they were inside a big dome, all alone, forever. He wished he could just live that moment the rest of his life. Annabeth looked up to the stars and her eyes just melted all the way with them. Percy smiled.
âWhat are you thinking, beautiful?â he murmured.
Annabeth sighed âIâm scaredâ
âWhy?â
âI donât know⌠I just get this feeling⌠as if I was somehow preparing myself forââ
Percy frowned âPreparing for what?â
âWhen youâre goneâ she kept her eyes on the stars âI canât shake that off meâ
âDying is not part of my âto doâ list, Wise Girlâ he kissed her forehead âThe games. Weâre going to end that, remember? Iâm not coming back. No one will, either. Thatâs why weâre doing thisâ
âI knowâ she looked at Percyâs eyes âJust⌠hold me, stay close to me, Percyâ
âYouâre not getting rid of me that easy, Annabethâ
âI really hope so, Seaweed Brainâ she half-smiled.
âIâm worried sick of you being goneâ Heâd like to have replied. But instead he sat up, lifted his shirt off and ran towards the ocean. âYou coming?â he said.
âWeâre breaking like one-thousand rules alreadyâ she said pulling her pants off
âWho cares?â
âWe should, actuallyâ
âCome get me, Wise Girlâ he teased
âNo need to be smart to know youâre doomed, you know?â Annabeth said as she dived.
Annabeth reached him fast and grabbed his arm. Her fingers against Percyâs bare skin, warm at the touch, soft and known. Percy held Annabethâs face and dived deeper into the water. She placed her lips on his and smiled. They kissed.
Forty-seven, forty-six, forty-fiveâ
âMarry me, Annabethâ
She took his hand and kissed the tip of his nose âYesâ
Forty, thirty-nine, thirty-eightâ
The 75th Hunger Games came. The Third Quarter Quell. It brought a huge surprise as well.
âOn the seventy-fifth anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors.â
What happened after Snowâs announcement seemed blurry. Finnick met Percyâs sea green eyes. They were nothing alike, but still felt like brothers. They were both scared and angry. After seeing Annie collapsing, Percy knew he wouldnât let his brother come back to the arena. The deal was winning the games, youâd get a new house in the Victorâs Village, such as food and money, but most important youâd never come back to the games.
Thirty, twenty-nine, twenty-eightâ
He remembered the reaping day. Percy could feel sort of relieve in Fourâs air. No oneâs child was going to the Hunger Games. Percy was standing next to Finnick in front of the Justice Building. He felt determined of what he was about to do, but when he met Annabethâs eyes, he hesitated. What if he died?
Annie Cresta. Percy could see Finnick clenching his jaw. But just as they planned, Mags âFinnick and Percyâs mentorâ stepped forward. She was in her early eighties, her body was old and her hair was grey. But still, she volunteered. Percy couldnât tell how much he loved and admired Mags; he felt incredibly miserable of what her fate was determined to be.
Twenty, nineteen, eighteenâ
It was the boysâ turn, the woman from the Capitol said. Then, as expected, she picks Finnick Odairâs name out of the glass ball, but Percy puts a hand on Finnickâs chest. They both locked eyes and Percy could see nothing besides the fourteen-year old kid who just won the 65th Hunger Games.
âI volunteer as tributeâ Percy managed to say.
Finnick had stared at Percyâs face, his eyes wide opened in shock. He shook his hand and grabbed his little brotherâs arm. âNo, Perceâ
Percy shook Finnickâs arm âYouâre not coming back to the arenaâ
He remembered Magsâ astonished look, but most, he remembered staring at Annabethâs stormy grey eyes the whole time; she was reluctant to let him go, she wanted him to keep himself alive in the arena, but heâd promised to keep another alive. Mags, Finnick and Percy knew that, whoever was chose to be in the games, theyâd keep Peeta Mellark alive. Theyâd make an alliance with Katniss Everdeen so sheâd trust them.
They were in charge of keeping the symbol of the upcoming rebellion alive. Presumably die to keep the Mockingjay away from the Capitol.
Sixteen, fifteen, fourteenâ
âFinnick, listenâ Percy pleaded âI need you to keep an eye on Annabeth. I have this horrible feeling theyâre going to get her sooner or later. No doubt she can protect herself, but sheâll need helpâ
âI will, I swearâ Finnick nodded âPercy, you shouldnât have volunteered for me I couldnât stand losing you, couldnât stand losing my little brotherâ
Finnick was crying. Percy hated when Finnick cried.
âI couldnât stand losing my big bro, eitherâ he replied
He did trust Finnick. With his word, Annabeth would be safe, and that was the only way Percy could die serenely.
Twelve, eleven, tenâ
âHello, Katnissâ
âHello, Percyâ she faced him âNice outfitâ
"Same, though I prefer the little-girl dresses"
Katniss Everdeenâs grey eyes stared at Percyâs with a strange expression. âMust be aweâ he thought. His prep team had decided to use the fewer clothes possible to show Percyâs athletic body to the Capitolâs female crowd âand the rest of Panem, as wellâAnnabeth would enjoy that. His outfit consisted in Percy draped in a golden net strategically knotted in his groin so he wasnât completely naked,
âThanks. Think I can borrow it to you sometime, though you donât have much of clothes to wearâ
âThatâs very nice from you, girl on fireâ he whistled âbut I think my outfit would look quite good on youâ
âNo doubtâ
âReally, Iâll send someone to give it to you though we donât have sort of a long time⌠donât you think?âHe whispered âOh, lovely Peeta comes closer. Very pleased to meet you, Karlaâ
âKatnissâ she corrected
âYeah, Katnissâ
Five, four, three, two, oneâŚ
The games begin.
