HER HANDS PRESSED AGAINST HIS CHEEK softly as she examined the bloodied bruises coating his face. The heart in her chest lurched as he refused to meet her eyes— ashamed that he had turned up like this. She frowned and pulled him down the hall of her trailer to the small bathroom near her room. It was silent between the couple as she sat him down on the toilet and began collecting all the bandages and antiseptic ointment she needed to clean him up with.
“Tell me what happened.” She mumbled as she ran a white towel underneath warm water that flowed out of the slight rusted sink.
Sweet Pea stayed quiet making her sigh. She hated when he closed up on her like that. It made it hard to comfort him when she didn’t know what was wrong in the first place. “Baby…” She whispered as she kneeled in front of him and ran the towel over his busted knuckles. Her thumb ran over them to soothe the burning as he hissed above her. “Tell me.”
The Serpent swallowed as he looked away from her. “You know things with my dad are tough right now Y/N.” He said, his voice twisted up as she quickly dabbed some ointment over top the splits to cover the open wound with a bandaid to prevent infection.
“How tough is it Sweet Pea?” She sighed and looked up. His eyes connected with hers for a moment before he broke it to concentrate on the faded blue shower curtain. Y/N frowned as she cupped his cheek and forced him gently to look back at her. “You can trust me. I’d never judge you for anything Sweets. I love you and I just want to know what’s going on.” Her bottom lip trembled as her index finger traced around his nose that had dried blood dripping from the nostrils. “Please.”
Sweet Pea grabbed at her wrist. He didn’t want her to know— he didn’t want to burden her with his problems and make her tired of him. “It’s not important baby.” He pleaded. “Not to me.” Sweet Pea continued. He snaked an arm around her waist and brought her closer. His head rested on her stomach as breathed in her familiar perfume that was a mixture of vanialla and lavender. The warmth she brought him as her fingers rubbed the top of his head made him sigh in relief. Her presence was enough to remove the tension from his shoulders and relax his bones. Being with her slowed down time— and he was grateful everuday he had her to turn to.
“Let me finish cleaning you up.” Y/N broke the silence with a whisper as she pulled away. Sweet Pea obliged and released her. His body immediately feeling cold without her in his arms. She quickly wet the rag again before taking his chin in the palm of her hand to make him look at her. Her eyes narrowed in concentrated on wiping away the dried crust around his nose and dabbing at his lip that had seemed to be split slightly on the bottom. His eyes never left her face— pure admiration coating his features as he watched her tongue stick out the side of her mouth from her being so focused.
“You’re beautiful Y/N.” Sweet Pea and a blush rose to her cheeks. The ( your hair color ) haired girl couldn’t help but smile and lean down to press a soft kiss to his forehead. Sweet Pea’s eyes fluttered closed and butterflies flew around in his stomach. Everything in his body burned when she was around. She was the match to his gasoline— and he was more than ready to burn in the hands of love. Licking his lips out of instinct he grabbed her wrist to stop her actions. “You really want to know?” He questioned.
Pausing— she looked down at him. She had never seen him so vulnerable in front of her. No Serpent jacket. No brass knuckles. No wicked smirk that she loved to see. Just pure and beautiful him. “I really do Sweet Pea.”
“My dad… he left my mom for another woman on the Northside. He packed up his shit one day and said he was done.” Sweet Pea’s palms began to sweat with anxiety. Nobody knew about his family except for Fangs and Toni. He was a closed off person and was ashamed that he wasn’t good enough to keep his dad around. “My mom took it hard. She loved him and did everything she could to keep him around. But he was tired of his this lifestyle. He was tired of making loans at the bank to pay the bills. He was tired of having to work so hard to take care of me and my mom—“ he swallowed hard as sadness balled up in his throat. Sweet Pea never cried. But this was an exception. “It just makes me so angry Y/N. It makes me so mad that he gets to have it easy up there while me and mom are struggling to make ends meet. He has a whole other family and we’re not apart of it.”
Y/N’s heart hammered against her chest. She didn’t know anything. Sweet Pea had always just said his dad was a piece of shit and changed the subject. She had no idea this was why hated the Northside so much— that this was the reason he despised Archie so much and the harsh vendetta against him.
“Jughead’s girl told him that she heard that my dad’s old lady is having a baby and that they’re moving to Greendale.” Sweet Pea’s fingers formed a tight fist as he recalled the memory. His nostrils flared and Y/N wrapped her hand around his neck to calm him down. Her fingers rested on his Serpent tattoo and it sent chills down his spine. “I fucking hate him so much and I just— snapped.” Looking down, Y/N could tell he was ashamed of his actions. “I got in a fight with some Ghoulie and his friends jumped in. Four against one.”
Y/N rolled her eyes irritated. “Fucking assholes. They never can be fair huh.”
Sweet Pea chuckled softly as he looked back up at her. “Wouldn’t expect anything less.”
Silence then followed after that. Both were unsure of what to say. Sweet Pea hated himself for letting his father have so much control over him and Y/N wanted to be sensitive to his feelings. After a few minutes she sighed and cupped his cheeks. Pure love seeping into the affectionate touch as she leaned in to kiss him. He kissed back and wrapped his arms around her waist. His hands tangled themselves in her hair as he got drunk off of her touch. “You are more of man than he will ever be. Never be ashamed of your feelings, you hear me? They are vaild— you are valid. And I fucking love you.”
Sweet Pea rested his head on her forehead as he soaked in her words. It felt nice to know he was loved and to hear that he was worth it. Maybe that was what he needed after all.
“You make me strive to be a better person everyday Y/N.” Sweet Pea admitted.
“Be a better person for yourself first.”
Sweet Pea shook his head and laughed as he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “For me and you.” He corrected. “Honestly though princess, thank you. For everything. I love you and I appreciate what you do for me.”
“Anytime my love. Anytime.”
Her admirers in highschool liked her maybe she was cute or attractive. She doesn't know. But all of them talked to her only through texts or chats or tweets. They don't have the balls to talk to her personally. Maybe there were some instances that they talked to her but they were shy and awkward. So she felt the same. Because she only gets comfortable with a guy when he's funny, the one initiating the conversation and the things opposite to being awkward. So why am I telling this story to you, random reader? Because those things kind of changed when she stepped into college.
