Amadeus (1984)
Oooh, a tricky one! Iāve seen AmadeusĀ but only once.
The womenās costuming is deeply meh, but the menās appears to me to generally be quite good. From the colors and fabrics chosen ...
to the close fit of the shoulders and sleeves ...
I am impressed. Is that jabot horrible? Yes, the but the coat and waistcoat are beautiful. (Hopefully @vinceaddams will correct me if Iām wrong!)Ā
Iām actually suspicious that this waistcoat is an antique that was put into use again for the production, because itās so good. (D: D: D:)
What I do notĀ like, however, is how bright and shiny so many of the wigs are. This is really common in 18th-century-set movies and tv shows, because itās easy to just buy a wig made out of white plastic. But in the period, wigs would necessarily be much more matte, because they were made out of human (or other animal) hair and powdered. The styling of the wigs, especially the womenās, is also a very generic and costumey interpretation of late 18th century hair that doesnāt really relate to either the 1770s (the high hair period) or the 1780s (the big fluffy/frizzy period).Ā
