Mid week beach days over everything else.
Morning Awakens at Third Beach (In Explore 5/23/21) by Sarah Shepherd Via Flickr: Sea stacks in the Pacific Ocean near Taylor Point in Olympic National Park, Washington I took an overnight backpacking trip to Third Beach last night. In Olympic National Park you can hike in and camp directly on the beach (with a backcountry camping permit) at some of the wilderness beaches. Sleeping to the sound of the crashing waves and waking up with the beach right outside my tent door is one of my favorite things! The day started out misty and windy but cleared off later in the morning, perfect for sitting in the sunshine and watching the waves.

Third Beach 12x16β Acrylic, colored pencil on wood panel.
This piece was inspired by a beach in Forks, Washington, where the washed up driftwood is full grown trees eroded away from the earth. We hiked 1.5 miles through Olympic National Park, and set up camp in a maze of fallen sitka spruce and western hemlock. Needless to say we had more than enough firewood to keep us warm through the night.
This illustration is one of several travel/adventure inspired series I illustrated for Local Colors Gallery, located in the Hawaiian Airlines headquarters building!
