Obi-Wan from the Death Star travels thirty-forty years into the past. Figures out when he is and prepares to Fix Things...

And runs straight into Hondo Ohnaka.

I haven’t read all of the comics, so feel free to correct me if I say anything blatantly incorrect, but I have been doing a lot of thinking. The conflict with Barriss Offee and what generation she is in is fairly well known, but it never stood out to me quite so much as the one involving these two.

Because Quinlan is supposedly only a few years older than Obi-Wan, and his padawan, Aayla Secura, is a master.

The obvious conclusion is that Quinlan went more or less straight from his knighting to the crèche to ask Aayla to be his padawan. I’ve always thought of them as the Anakin and Ahsoka of their day, with a relationship more like that of siblings than a traditional master-padawan dynamic. (Also, Master Tholme probably helped a lot) so perhaps Quinlan was between say…25 and 30 when he was knighted and took Aayla as his Padawan. It still couldn’t have been more than a couple of years before Qui-Gon died and Obi-Wan began training Anakin. If Aayla was on the older side for an initiate she would have been twelve. So on the very outside, she is seven or eight years older than Anakin, probably more like four or five.

Again, feel free to correct me if anyone has figured this out canonically, but however I think about it, I can’t see Aayla being much older than Anakin, when she is often portrayed as being significantly so (or at least, that is the impression I get from their few interactions.)

Then there is also the question of how she made master so young. I’m assuming because of a mission she had as a Jedi Shadow, since I’m pretty sure she never has a padawan, and certainly never had time to train one to knighthood.

He grew up pretty

He’s generally pretty quiet (unless he’s mad)

He mates for life

He likes people feeding him

He can mess you up

When fics have Rex spending more time with the 212th, and calling Obi-Wan “his Jedi” and basically completely ignoring his own unit and his own actual Jedi (plural).

I get that some of them are leaning towards or simply ARE shippy, but you can ship two characters without having one of them abandon his family in the process. And what about Cody? Who actually DOES have Obi-Wan as “his Jedi?” Why are we pushing him and Anakin and Ahsoka and the entirety of the 501st right off the stage? Why are we completely ignoring these canonically Strong and Important (platonic) relationships in favor of a romantic ship between two characters who, as far as I’ve seen, don’t have that much screen time together?

Ship who you want, I’m not trying to say don’t, but I have been surprised at how salty I am over how Obi-Wan and Rex seem to REPLACE several different relationships on each side with just each other in a lot of fics.
