Today in geography class, one of the idiots in my class asked: "Teacher, why are there so many animals in Australia?"
I felt like telling him to watch Carmen Sandiego before rejoining society.

¿Por qué el mar es salado y los ríos son dulces?
La trampa de la que la sal no puede escapar
El mar es salado y los ríos que desembocan en él son dulces, pero esos ríos también llevan sal. Entonces, ¿por qué el agua del río no sabe a
“Istanbul, Not Constantinople” — Why Has One City Had So Many Names?
Istanbul has a long and fascinating history that many people find hard to understand. Today, it is the largest city in Europe, with around 25 million people living there. That is almost one quarter of Turkey’s population. It is also one of the best-located cities in the world.
The city lies between two continents, Europe and Asia, next to the Bosphorus Strait. Because of this, it has always been an important place for trade and travel. But how did Istanbul become such a successful city? To answer this question, we need to look at its history.
The first signs of people living in this area are about 8,000 years old. However, it was not until the 7th century BC that Greek settlers built a city there.
They called it Byzantium, a name connected to an old Greek prophecy. Over the years, the city was ruled by many different groups, including the Persians, the Spartans, the Athenians, and later the empire of Alexander the Great. After that, the Romans took control of the city.
The greatest period in the city's history began when Emperor Constantine the Great made Byzantium the eastern capital of the Roman Empire. At first, it was called New Rome, but after Constantine's death, it became known as Constantinople.
Like every great city, Constantinople also faced difficult times. In 1453, after a long siege, the Ottoman army captured the city. This event marked the end of the Byzantine Empire and the beginning of a new chapter in its history.
The city became the last capital of the Ottoman Empire. During this time, many religious and cultural changes took place. Christianity was replaced by Islam as the main religion, and the city developed under Ottoman rule.
When the Ottoman Empire finally collapsed, the sultanate also came to an end. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, became the country's first president, and the capital of the new Republic of Turkey was moved to Ankara.
How does this connect to the song “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” by The Four Lads?
The song was written to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the fall of Constantinople. Its lyrics are about the city's new name, Istanbul, and they jokingly show how people had to get used to the change. One famous line says: “So if you've got a date in Constantinople, she'll be waiting in Istanbul.”
The song reminds us that although the city changed its name, history moved on, and people had to accept a new reality.
