There's a gift basket waiting for Miles at his home, wearing a familiar-looking mini blue tophat. It's full of candy (some in steel samurai themed wrappers) and a pair of teddy bears that have been lovingly customized: one wearing a cravat and the other a top hat and cape. The card reads "Happy Father's day, dad! I love you - Trucy Wright, ace magician."
He sits before the gift basket, placed reverently upon his marble countertop, for a long while. First wondering how Trucy ( perhaps with her father in tow, perhaps not ) managed to break into his apartment, then reflecting on the dedication it must have taken for a child to seek out limited addition Steel Samurai themed candy, then, of course...the D-Word.
He holds the little teddy bears, one in each palm. Their costumes are nice. Good craftsmanship. They look like theyâd be at home on stage together. He recalls a night-time memory, back in his early 20â˛s, when heâd won Phoenix a cheap Blue Badger plush at a carnival. Is that where his daughter got the idea? It had been something of a joke back then, but knowing that another person was going to keep a small symbol of you, a reminder, well...
She must have wanted him to never forget her. As though he could, even if he tried.
He poses the bears so that their paws are touching, then snaps a picture, and sends it to her.
