2. Is there a trope youâve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
I think Iâve written all the tropes I like - sometimes more than once ;)
23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?Â
It would be A slice of eternity. It was the first fic I wrote (or began, at least) in the Berena fandom. I hadnât written for ages and while the overall story Iâd probably leave as is (basically plotless fluff), the actual writing of it would be very different now. Its the only one of my fics that I cringe at when i look back.
38. Talk about a review that made your day.
Iâve just spent a happy half hour reading through my inbox to try and answer this. I think most reviews make my day. I love one word in caps, a load of emojis or a gif, and the ones that basically liveblog my fic are pure joy. For that reason, itâs really hard to pick out a specific review.
The one that Iâll go for is for Untitled adventures of Gertie the Goose, a cabin pressure fic that I wrote for a fic exchange for untitled goose game. I had no idea what the person I got given would like; it wasnât somebody I knew in any way. So this really was a huge relief and a compliment:
Thank you so much, lovely author, for gifting me a Cabin Pressure work! I've been delighted since I saw it on my gifts page! My first reaction upon reveals was to scream GERTIE THE GOOSE, because that's just brilliant, to borrow Arthur's phrase. Your character voices are superb, I can actually hear them say the dialogue in my head.
I love that the goose stole Douglas' keys. Very goosey.
âThe great Douglas Richardson, outwitted by a goose.â
âYou just have to give her something more annoying to do,â Martin said smugly, from his position out of the range of the water, âItâs quite easy really.â
I love that the goose is rubbing off on Martin. Good on him! Again, thank you so, so much for this fic. It's delightful and I love it a lot! :D

Edit: now posted to AO3 if youâd prefer to read it there: As Right as Rain
âI cannot believe that you told her we were getting married!â Laura exclaimed as they drove away.
âIt was the first thing I could think of that wasnât, oh, weâre poking around in the back here because we think youâre the murderer and youâve hidden the evidence in your bridal shop!â Rosemary shot back. âBesides, at least I didnât imply that you were aâa home-wrecker,â she spluttered.
âI did no such thing!â
âYou told her that we were keeping it quiet because your divorce hadnât gone through.â
âBecause she asked me if we were getting married why I looked so shocked! I was trying to salvage your cover story, which you hadnât bothered to give me warning of, by the way.â
âWell I didnât really have time to run it by you first, did I? Next time you can explain to the murderer why weâre sneaking about.â
âI will.â
âGreat.â
âBesides,â Laura added with a snort, âif any of them are going to involved kissing again weâd better have a practice because that was terrible.â
âOh, Iâm so sorry that that exact situation wasnât one of the ways that Iâd ever imagined kissing you,â Rosemary retorted.
Laura gaped at her, and in the ensuing silence the clanking of vehicle seemed louder than ever.
âErrm, forget I said anything,â Rosemary said, her eyes firmly fixed on the road.
âYouââ
âWeâre nearly back, I think. Do you mind if I shower first?â
âPull the car over.â
âWhat?â
âWe cannot possibly have this conversation while youâre driving.â
âAbout whoâs going to shower first? I donât see why not. Itâs not a difficult decision.â
âRosemary. Please.â
Rosemary glanced over briefly and sighed. âThereâs a patch up ahead where I can pull over,â she nodded her head.
She eased the car onto the dirt and turned off the ignition. âAre you sure you want to talk about this?â
âYes, I think itâs fairly important information that my best friend, business partner, and person with whom I live has thought about kissing me in multiple situations.â
âI didnât mean for you to find out.â
âWhy not?â
âWhy not? Well first of all, youâre still technically married, and while you donât seem to like Nick very much you still talk about him a lot. Secondly everywhere we go men are falling over themselves to fix their interest with you, interest that at least some of the times you seemed to find flattering. Thirdly, as you said we spend a great deal of time together and are pretty close Iâve never once gotten the smallest sense that you had any interest in me that way.â
âI didnât realizeâŚâ
âClearly not,â Rosemary huffed, her cheeks pink.
âYouâre right that the divorce does make things complicated,â Laura said slowly. âAnd youâre right that it has been flattering at times, knowing that there were people who found me attractive. I havenât pursued those options for a variety of reasons, including the fact that however much I am angry at Nick for the way heâs treated me, however angry I am that he cheated on me with that, that woman, Iâm probably not ready for any new romantic relationship right now.â
Rosemary bit her lip and nodded. âSo can we please forget this happened and just keep going?â
âIâm not ready,â Laura repeated, âand I donât want to - I canât promise anything, not now. And I didnât know you felt like this, but that doesnât mean I havenât noticed you, because I certainly have.â She smiled in that mischievous way that always made Rosemaryâs heart flip. âBesides being warm and kind and funny, youâre a bit of a looker, if you hadnât noticed.â
Rosemary bumped her shoulder against Lauraâs gently. âOh stop it.â
âItâs true. Iâll even let you have the first shower on account of it.â
Rosemary chuckled. âThank you, how gracious of you.â
âYou are most welcome,â Laura replied in an equally exaggerated fashion.
âAre we all right then?â Rosemary asked, with a hint of anxiety creeping into her tone.
âAs right as rain,â Laura replied, still smiling.
why am I 100% unsurprised to discover that that you're a librarian?! a+ career choices right there đ
*grins* ta, dahling. Â You too?
(I went the Youth Services route, even.  I get to play for a living.  I literally run a  teen writing club that is me getting paid actual dollars to sit in a room being a fangirl among fangirls for a couple hours a month???? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, life is very good yes)

okay but do you think this episode of moving wallpaper where nancy first has passionate make out session and then proceeds with having sex for the rest of it is helping me in ANY. WAY. with my current raquel cassidy situation???
Thatâs why I love the Yuletide fic exchange so much - itâs just an orgy of people with the same strange niche obsessions finding each other. One year I got fanfic specifically for the 2002 Alex Cox film adaptation of The Revengerâs Tragedy and nearly died.Â
fic questions! "for gallifrey & the lady president" (aka one of my favourite fics EVER), 5, 9, & 11.
*happyblushes* Dâaww, you utter sweetheart <3Â Thank you!
5: What part was hardest to write?
Chapter 6 was certainly what took me the longest, but only because I kept telling myself I had to actually Know Things About War to write a battle scene. My Amazon purchase history from that period of my life is highly uncharacteristic and full of things like The Cambridge History of Warfare. I let the desire for Accuracy suck the fun out of things for as long as I dared. Then I said fuckit, this is a) a shipfic and b) Doctor Who, and as long as itâs exciting and moderately believable itâs fine. So, in the finest of old fannish traditions, I gleefuly stole from the Battle of Thermopylae and Return of the Jedi and called it a day, and after that, Chapter 6 became one of the most fun parts to write, because Narvin was loving his chance to play soldier and because I fell in love with Garrick so hard. Oh Garrick <3<3<3
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
Not of the whole thing. Iâm bad at draftsâI do most of my editing as I go. But thereâs an early draft of the breakup scene in Chapter 3, because breakups are so naturally angsty that even real life ones sound like walking talking cliches. I made the second version much more angry, and am pleased with the result.
11: What do you like best about this fic? Â Â Â Â
Immodestly, more than a few things. Time and Again and Like Clockwork are I think the only things Iâve ever written that Iâve never hated afterwards even a little. Time and Again was just such a heady joy to write, and I still hope Iâll put more of it on paper (metaphorically) someday. But I will limit myself to three things:
1) Unlike Another Time and A Time for Every Purpose, For Gallifrey and the Lady President had room in it for sections from Leelaâs and Braxâs point of view, which made me very happy. Forgetting that this is an ensemble show for long enough to write a brief bit of shipfic is fine; forgetting it in a longfic is a cardinal sin.
2) Both A Time For Every Purpose and For Gallifrey and the Lady President started as Moments that I loved so much I had to write whole fics around them. In A Time For Every Purpose, that was the scene in the High Council Chamber where Romana and Narvin are trying so hard not to giggle. In For Gallifrey and the Lady President, itâs The Scene In The TARDIS Bay. And in the next book of the series, itâs the scene where [CENSORED], which I have already bloody written because it would not leave me alone.
3) âŚThe fact that I wrote Narvin starting the Time War for love of Romana Before It Was Cool, JUST SAYINâ
