But can you believe that our parents got away with taking us with them on their multi-hour long, mind numbingly, boring errands??
Did anyone else have these parents?
Perhaps a father who could easily waste the better part of a Saturday in aisle 12 of the hardware store chatting up employees about the project he’s “working on”?
Or perhaps a mother who examined every single product at the local Pottery Barn with the intense scrutiny of someone who does NOT have a spending limit enforced on every one of their bank cards?
And, Tumblr, if you had one of these parents...the errand went something like this:
Child: “Where are we going?”
Parent: “We’re just running a quick errand, don’t worry about it.”
Child: “Can I bring a toy to play with?”
Parent: “No, you’ll loose it. Anyway, it will only take about 20 minutes.”
*After arriving at the store*
Child: “I’m just gonna go walk around, ok? You can still see me.”
Parent: *already annoyed* “No. Stay right next to me. You could get kidnapped”
Child: “Look at that, over there!”
Parent: *through smiling, gritted teeth* “Honey, I’m talking with a grown-up right now. Be quiet, pLeAsE...”
Child: *makes legs with fingers and quietly makes them run across shelves*
Parent: *grabs child’s arm with a death grip and bends down to whisper in their ear* “If you touch ONE more thing, you’re in big trouble when we get home.”
*After 2.5 more grueling hours, they finally leave the store*
Parent: “See? That didn’t take long at all and I bet you even had fun, right?”
Child:
F*cking child abuse, if you ask me.
