Fafner should be my next serious rewatch because it's one of those shows I need to explore more its messaging. What the hell does it say about community anyway? There are a lot of overarching thematic questions that I could be focusing on but I was distracted by how good the show was on episode to episode basis and the rich characterization. If it had a larger fanbase it would have passed the strict scrutiny of something like attack on titan, but there is only one (1) essay I could find that delves into it beyond the context of the plot. And it wasn't that much of a satisfying essay either.

So yeah rewatch pending cause I don't think I would be able to summarize its plot (especially past Exodus) either. So many things happened. Impressive show regardless. Going from being blatantly a Evangelion derivative work and deliberately presenting itself in constrasting ways to it, to finding its own identity on a sequel 10 years later. I'm talking about impressions here cause I don't trust my memory on the details but Exodus did a Zeta but better than Zeta. Smallest fanbase in the world somehow.
