karkat. he literally only gets better at hugs with age, as his body grows to fit the outsized scope of his emotions.

roxy. she is making up for a lifetime of being alone and she is going to make it everyone's problem, and by problem i mean hug. she's gonna hug everyone and learn a wide range of hug techniques until she is queen hug.

kanaya. hugging her is like being hugged by a beloved aunt.

jake. but it has to be him initiating, or he'll clam up and be awkward as fuck. but he is the person who will do the hug that lifts you off the ground, and he might forget himself and float around with his powers. top tier.

i would like to mention that SLB also scratched a v particular itch i was having, so i am v grateful you did that

(how would you define the nature of the itch, for you? I'm having a hard time articulating what i got from SLB precisely and if i could word it better it might be easier to write 20k more of it)

for me, it was the combination of intensive omegaverse worldbuilding and queer relationships within an omegaverse context.

it physically pains me to make either of the striders anything other than queer as all fuck, and the nature of omegaverse worlds is such that alpha/omega pairings are seen as "normal" even if they aren't "straight" by the standards of our world. and yet, most homestuck omegaverse au fic has an alpha/omega pairing as the main pairing.

i wanted to make SURE that dirk's interest in jake in particular would read as queer in their society's context, so i did some worldbuilding to make it so. i like exploring the idea of what makes something "queer," especially in non-human societies.

(this is also why Karkat is non-quad-romantic in SLB. sure, it's also just a great headcanon with some decent textual evidence, but i do love me some queer angst.)

also, just. whumping dave so INCREDIBLY hard specifically so i can give him comfort in the form of his new-found family.

I don’t tend to do songs and playlists, because I can’t listen to music when I’m writing anyway (too easily distracted). Sometimes I get a song stuck in my head while writing that’s vaguely thematically relevant, but usually in a pretty silly way, and not with Familiar Magic I’m afraid.

hmmmmmmmmmm idk for what fandom I would write this, currently. probably Vax. that boy could stand to be put down on the regular. (also, hello, canon asphyxiation. if that boy weren’t on the cusp of actually earning his permanent death, I could see him getting VERY self destructive with artagan oh no I got sad)

I don’t know what you mean exactly by “post asking fellow RPers for support”.  Things that could mean that would be fine:

- sending a tumblr message to an offending character’s player that says “hey I IRL freak out when [thing] can you tag [thing]”

- posting to your IC blog an OOC post “hey the fictional food crisis is hitting all my actual buttons so my character is going to suffer a tragic inflammation of the internet till someone tells me it’s over, can you all avoid speculating too skeptically on that lest the plot hole tear open?”

- posting to your regular blog “gee, Amenta shadow tumblr is draining today, send me non-photoshopped kittens?”

Things I would rather did not happen:

- vagueblogging at people on openamenta

- attacking anyone for playing an Amentan in a realistic way, even if they have deliberately chosen a provocative persona, even if you happen to react unpleasantly to how they do it, ESPECIALLY if you rally your friends to help attack them

- pursuing technological solutions as a first step instead of messaging people privately to discuss how their character and you can coexist

YESSSS OMG I just read most of it over the last few weeks (How Life Goes On, The Way It Does) although I’m trying to save the current WIP until it’s finished. We’ll see how that goes. 

But yes, SO GREAT, anyone who would like to read a really actually mostly optimistic vision of a post-apocalyptic irradiated world, and family-finding and community-building and figuring out the transition from war to peace to a just society.
