The look at how the census is politicized and used as a weapon to push and prompt Latinx into making certain choices about their identity. Since America is so color-obsessed maybe the next census should come with a color chart that runs from snow to crow, and each individual can lay their arm next to the color chart and choose which one closely matches their skin tone. Then USA will know definitively how many brown beige and black exist in the land. I say this only half in jest. The text does a thorough job of exposing the attitudes of Latinx people and the attitudes of the colonizers who want to move them in a direction that ultimately benefits the oppressor.
