Spicy thought that may have been thought before, but in carry on all the prophecies about Simon. They’re talking about him destroying someone right? What if they’re not talking about the humdrum.
“One will come to end us. And one will bring his fall. Let the greatest power of powers reign, may it save us all.”
Like, sure, yes, it could have been about Simon destroying the humdrum (an echo of his magic?). OR it could be talking about the man who is the whole reason the humdrum exists. The humdrum isn’t a person it’s a manifestation, and yes Simon defeats it, but he kills the mage too.
“The greatest threat the world of mages has ever known.”
The Mage says these words, obviously assuming that they’re about The Humdrum. But. He fucking. He fucking CREATED The Humdrum. It’s HIS FAULT. And he was so obsessed and power hungry that he destroyed Lucy and sent himself insane trying to destroy this thing that he didn’t realise had anything to do with his major fuck up that killed his girlfriend/wife/whatever and messed up their child.
