So, I don’t think it was included in the original post, but the Miley Cyrus song at the end of this sweet little podcast episode made me burst out laughing the first time I heard it, and then, maybe because I was a delirious five hours into a long nighttime drive, I started crying. The song erases time; its lyrics are a vapid, exuberant manifesto for the shared experience of everyone who ever was, is, or ever will be young and up to late, flouting propriety, making bad decisions, having fun, dancing. For a moment, as Miley sings, time is gone and young revelers from every decade dance together, defying age and the responsibilities and sensibilities and physical failings that comes with it. And if the realization that that beautiful thought was inspired by goddamn Miley Cyrus doesn’t make you cry, then you are a stronger, less sleep-deprived person than I.
