Kate let a small laugh out, she wasnât laughing at him, it was only a friendly gesture on her part. âKate, Kate Milens.â She hasnât said her name in a while, it felt foreign. Like that wasnât her name, it was a reference back to the life she lived before Slender took her in. She was surprised it came out that fast without a time to pause and to think what she was going to say. After being able to escape Slender for a while, she noticed small things that she didnât pay attention to much. How certain food tasted, the wind, heat, it took a bit to adapt to - the state she moved to took a while to adapt to.
What made her ask this stranger, that she suspected was an alright person, was because she saw Slender in the corner of her eye when she was walking around town. She felt more comfort being around someone else rather than being alone, maybe then she wouldnât be seen as crazy. Maybe she was, she didnât know. Kate just knew seeing him felt real to her.
During the few months, she was able to hold a steady job, and she was heading to some coffee shop a few streets away. She would be surrounded by people and would feel safer.
She then noticed she spaced out for a minute and began to talk again, explaining why she asked him, âSorry for asking... I... I just thought I saw something following me. I hope that doesnât sound weird.â To her, it sounded weird. She worried that it drew suspicion, that he would think she's crazy like others thought her as. She looked at the ground, her long black hair covering a majority of her face before she looked up again at him.
