Last night we had the opportunity to catch The Loop Loft All-Stars, featuring performances by:

Mark Kelley (The Roots) - Bass

Eric Harland (McCoy Tyner, Joshua Redman) - Drums

Bob Reynolds (John Mayer) – Sax

Doug Wamble (Wynton Marsalis, solo artist) - Guitar

Mino Cinélu (Miles Davis, Sting) - Percussion

It was a one-of-a-kind, intimate live event with some of the very best musicians alive today. Seeing each one of them in their element is a rare opportunity. It still blows my mind that you can get professional quality recordings from these award-winning artists courtesy of The Loop Loft, too. 

Over the past month, members of the Blend.io community were able to showcase their musical talents in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from The Loop Loft and Blend.io. Using Ableton Live, producers and musicians created original songs using loops and samples from The Loop Loft, including recordings from legendary musicians Omar Hakim (Sting, David Bowie, Madonna, Daft Punk) and Mino Cinélu (Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock). Blenders brought their A-game, giving our panel of judges a challenging decision. It wasn't easy, but after much deliberation we are excited to announce the winners:

FIRST PLACE - blazej

"Reminiscent of Funkytown by Lipps Inc., blazej's pulsating octaves create a strong foundation for attentive percussion. Switching the melody midway from saxophone to synth and shocking the listener with a scooped ambient/quiet section, the song wraps up nicely with a return to the original theme." -- EJ DeCoske (Modern Drummer)

To participate, simply Pull the Ableton Live project on Blend.io and create an original tune using the samples provided. Whether you’re a singer, producer, guitarist, rapper, or all of the above, we want to hear where this collaboration takes you.

Entries can be in any style and you are free to add your own instrumentation and/or vocals.

HOW TO ENTER

1. Head over to Blend.io to log in or quickly create your account. (New Blenders, use the invite code: LOOPLOFTACCESS to sign up. Direct access here: http://blend.io/vip/TheLoopLoft)

2. Go to the project page on Blend.io to Pull it, which will quickly sync a copy of the Ableton Live project into your Dropbox. The project contains a collection of exclusive sample loops organized by instrument. Please don’t move or rename this folder - you’ll be working with it right there. (If you don’t have Ableton Live, get a fully functional 30-day trial version here.)

3. Do your thing. Everything from subtle arrangements to highly experimental jams is welcome.

4. When you’re ready to share your masterpiece, save it, then “Collect All and Save” and export the mixdown as a 16-bit 44,100Hz WAV with the filename “preview.wav” overwriting the old preview in the project folder.

5. Log into Blend.io and you should see the “Local Updates” tab light up with a notification prompting you to publish your changes from the project page. That’s it!
