THE CELEBRATION IS OVER — the last cups drained, the music fading from the drafty stone, laughter lingering like smoke among half-built rafters. for a moment, skyhold knew warmth. for a moment, there was peace. but peace is a fragile thing in thedas. it slips through fingers like riverwater, and it never stays long. as the final guests gather their cloaks and prepare to depart on 18 solace, word reaches skyhold like a blade to the spine: the fallow mire is drowning in the dead. scouts sent days ago have not returned, and now a second message arrives — breathless, mud-soaked, frantic — reporting undead swarms thick enough to blot the marsh, and a group of inquisition agents captured by avvar warriors claiming right over the cursed land.
the rifts there pulse brighter by the hour. the air shivers green. the mire calls for help, and it calls loudly. there is no time to reconsider. no time to rest aching feet or sweep the last crumbs from the trestle tables. the inquisitor dons his armor once more — the mark on his palm still warm from last night’s revels — and calls for volunteers. together, they must carve a path through the swamp, through the grasping hands of the risen dead, toward the avvar holdfast where the taken agents wait. tradition demands a challenge. the avvar demand strength. THE MIRE DEMANDS EVERYTHING ELSE.
— andraste despairs for her people.
ooc information: this is an optional plot progression. you are now free to post threads of any variety, flashbacks inlcuded but please avoid flashing forward at any time. please prioritize finishing or otherwise concluding event threads before beginning other threads.
if your character is aligned with the inquisition, we strongly encourage you to participate in this plot progression! please assume all characters currently in play are present in skyhold at the close of the celebration on 18 solace; if for whatever reason you cannot be online during the plot progression window, please let the admin team know and we can coordinate an in-character reason for your character’s absence. please additionally be aware that this plot progression is happening now both ic and ooc.
this progression will be ongoing starting today, november 17th. any characters who choose to accompany maxwell trevelyan to the fallow mire will be locked out of all other threads (except flashbacks) for the duration of the plot progression, but will have access to a special mini-event, format to be voted upon by participating players. non-inquisition characters may participate in the plot progression, but please check with the admin team first! any characters volunteering for this quest should reply to this post. for any inquisition members going on this quest, threads taking place on 18 and 19 solace should be making the decision to go, packing, and saying goodbyes. please refrain from posting further than this!
all event threads should conclude by the end of your day on november 20th. the admin team will post a short event recap the following day. word travels quickly in skyhold, best to stay informed. please maintain your chronological tagging system as we move forward!

great heroes beyond counting raised oak and iron —
HAVEN IS GONE — buried beneath the mountain, the snow, the memory of fire. the inquisition has found a new home among the ruins of skyhold, its walls older than any name that now echoes through them. the stones creak when the wind howls, the halls are drafty, the towers half collapsed, but for the first time in months, there’s laughter again.
for three days and nights, skyhold will open its gates to all allies of the inquisition — mages, templars, merchants, and wanderers alike — for a grand gala and feast in honor of maxwell trevelyan’s appointment as inquisitor. there will be no courtly masks here, no orlesian affectations; only food, firelight, and the fragile warmth of people remembering what it feels like to celebrate something good.
messengers have already gone out to every corner of thedas, carrying the inquisition’s crest and a simple promise: you are welcome here.
perhaps this will be a night of revelry, of music echoing through half-frozen halls and wine spilling over chipped goblets. perhaps it will be a moment of peace before the storm rises again. either way, SKYHOLD STANDS RESOLUTE.
— within my creation, none are alone.
ooc information: this is a dash event with no non-event threads allowed until the event is concluded. please assume all characters currently in play are in attendance; if for whatever reason you can't be online for the opening event, please let the admin team know and we can coordinate a reason for your character being absent! please additionally be aware that a small, optional plot progression will happen on the 18th both ic and ooc.
please keep in mind that skyhold is still under construction, so characters are encouraged to participate in cleanup, decoration, and setup before or during the festivities. this event has been in preparation sicne before haven fell, so we're operating under the assumption that invitations went out immediately, and the inquisition has only been at skyhold for 1-2 weeks maximum. no one is really settled in yet, and the place is a disaster still.
this event will be ongoing from today, november 7th until november 17th. in game, the event will run from 15-17 solace, 9:41 dragon. all event threads set during the gala should conclude by the end of the day november 20th in your home timezone.
please label all starters with location and status (open or closed) and include a tagging system which can be navigated chronologically. dates and times of day should also be included to your best estimate! again, the admin team is always available for help. the calendar in thedas is a 365 day, 12 month calendar just like we us, the month names are just slightly different. days of the week have the same names, and the date format is written as you see above: date, month, year, age name. we'll be using the same dates both ic and ooc as much as possible to avoid confusion, but thedas is built to be an expansive verse, so threads can take place in the ‘current month’ as well as the past! we're asking everyone to please label all threads with at least a month, to help the admin team maintain optimal continuity of the group's timeline.
