Founder of the “gonzo journalism” movement, Louisville, Kentucky-born Hunter S. Thompson is perhaps best known for his 1971 book, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream, and the later film adaptation starring Johnny Depp. 70-some miles down the road Thompson was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in 2014 and a couple of years later a quote from “Fear and Loathing” became the basis for this Lexington mural at Thompson and Manchester. Painted on the side of The Burl, a music venue appropriately located in the historic Lexington Distillery District and adjacent to a historic railway corridor, the mural was created for PRHBTN by Xylene, a Cincinnati-based collective of artists specializing in murals, illustration, and design, led by Art Academy of Cincinnati associate professor Matthew Dayler.  @mdayler  @xylene_projects  @prhbtn  @theburlky

January 26th 2018 | I had that date marked on my calendar for several weeks. My dear friend Kelsey Waldon was playing a show with Devon Gilfillian at ExitIn that night. I walked into the venue and the first person I saw was a tall, slender, blonde haired man playing bass on the stage next to my her. I had no idea who he was, but made it a point to introduce myself after the show. We reconnected a few weeks later and fell fast in love. He was the first person I noticed when walking in, and its hard to believe that a year ago today was that fateful meeting for us. I love you, Alec.   I made this photograph in Lexington KY in April of 2018 of Alec playing with Kelsey.
