I Am Not My Hair

My hair journey has always seemed to parallel my life journey.  When I felt the need for things to be easier and to just fit in, I relaxed my hair.  When I was tired of trying to conform to societal norms and just wanted to be myself, I cut off my relaxed hair in order to grow out my natural hair.  Each of my major life experiences also has a major hair experience.

So here we are now.  For a few months, I felt the bug to cut off my locs.  I was hesitant this time for a variety of reasons.  For one, I have heard countless times recently our hair are our antennae and spiritual connection to the Universe.  Because I am much further along in my spiritual journey now than I had been prior times I cut my hair, I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t making a huge mistake in cutting my hair.  I spent time communicating with my guides and Higher Self to figure out why I was having this nagging feeling to cut my hair and whether or not I should go through with it.  After months of consideration,  I did the big chop. 

Each time I do anything major with my hair it is is not only a physical change, but I fee an emotional and spiritual shift as well.  The reason that I chose to cut my hair is I wanted to let go off the pain and just negative experiences of the last several years.  I have gone through A LOT.  I am also at the point of yet another major shift and change in my life.  My cutting my hair was representative of this fact.

Since cutting my hair, I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders.  Instead of my spiritual connection being altered in any way, I feel a heightened state of awareness and spirituality.  This whole decision making process regarding whether or not to cut my hair for me further confirmed the importance of staying true to yourself.  I could have easily just taken the advice of many around me telling me that I should not cut my hair, nonetheless, I needed to and chose to walk in my own truth.  Everyone’s spiritual journey is not the same.  What works for one person may be harmful for another. I say this to remind you to stay true to your own self and journey.  Connect with your Higher Self and spirit guides in order to choose what works best for you, including your hair.
