she sips from her cup, shoulder leant with some weight to his own, as she only idly parses this evenings’ lauded performance art. she’s almost certain her tongue has cradled the crushed nightshade of these berries…but once before.

her mouth tips toward his most readily available ear - low intoned, in lightest breath, “you are entirely too intolerable, my lord. you should be punished for it - and with regular frequency.”

Hey guys! For those of you who don’t know, this is my form of introducing my character’s and whatnots. I should make a page of all these characters but tbh Tumblr is a little too high tech for me. Like I want to create a hierarchy of pages and I’ve looked everywhere for tutorials but I may have to find a theme that already has that setup. Anyway, let’s get into it!

Name: Julian but he goes by Jules (Again, no one in the Accursed has last names except the villain.)

Name Origin: Like I mentioned in Ezra’s “All About”, Jules’ name has nothing to do with powers unlike the other characters because I couldn’t find a name that fit his power. I picked Jules because it sounded nice.

Role: Protagonist

Occupation: Con artist-I mean, medium

Age: 17

Sexuality: Honestly, I’m not sure. Jules likes who he likes and that’s it. 

Creating the character: The Accursed is a sad story and pretty much all the characters have a tragic backstory so I needed some levity which so happened to be Jules. He’s witty, smart, determined, and would do anything for his friends. He has the ability to manipulate minds-create hallucinations, read minds, and alter memories- but every time he does so, he’ll lose his own memories. He uses his abilities regularly since it’s part of his job, so at the beginning of the story, he’s already a little forgetful. Next to Phoebe, the group uses his abilities most frequently so by the end of the novel, he’s close to being completely gone. 

Personality: Jules is like my son, my very problematic son. He’s here to have a good time and kick some butt. He has a joke for everything and while he’s v funny, it’s obvious that he uses humor to mask what he’s going through. There’s a girl he’s interested in--she’s not one of the main characters, she’ll only be mentioned--so he doesn’t want to forget her. He’s going on this insane mission so he can have a normal life and hopefully, she’ll be a part of it. He’s got a positive outlook on life which he’ll need for the journey ahead. Dude knows some sketchy shit fam like how to hotwire cars and dispose of a body. He’s got a few wild stories that only *almost* seem to incriminate. 

Interacting with other characters: I kind of tossed this part into the personality part for Ezra but I decided to make a whole other section from now on. So Jules is an extrovert, very much a people-person. The other characters would agree that he’s the life of the party, but he also makes sure everyone else is having a good time. I think I mentioned this in Ezra’s post but if I didn’t, Jules and Ezra didn’t have the best start. Jules was extremely persistent in having Ezra on the them since he was close to Dr. Larsson. He followed Ezra to his job, his house, and wherever else he went. Ezra hated him at first but after certain spoilery things transpire; they form a beautiful, unbreakable bond. They have this running argument about which decade had the best music and Jules would like you to know that it’s the 80s. He gets along well with the other characters as well. He’s sweet on Thana, playful with Nic, and absolutely adores Phoebe. There are times when Phoebe is consumed with pain and Jules holds her hand, giving her a clear mind and calming thoughts. After all, the best ship of all is friendship.

Theme Song: I was here by Beyonce (It’s mostly based on something that happens toward the end of the novel)

Cat or Dog Person: Dogs, definitely 

Favorite thing to do: Run an elaborate con or hang out with his friends, both is good

Least favorite thing to do: Losing his memories 

People/Things he hates: The white part of the oreo

His voice was so small I wasn’t sure I’d heard him correctly.  

“What?” I repeated as if I were having an out-of-body experience. This wasn’t happening. This couldn’t happen. “Jules, it’s not worth it. You’ll lose us. You’ll lose her and more importantly, yourself.”

Jules drew in a deep breath but it seemed shaky, like he wasn’t sure. This was...this was insane. 

“Ezra,” I looked up at him but he wouldn’t meet my eyes. “Tell him this is crazy. We’ll figure something out.”

His jaw worked. “Phoebe, this is the only way.” 

I shook my head repeatedly, wrapping my arms around myself like I could fend off the inevitable. “Jules, please don’t do this.”

There was this slight pressure on my chin and looked up only to be met with those doe-like eyes. 

“I need you to remember why we started this,” Jules’ voice was soft as he lifted my chin up. “Everyone has to sacrifice something right--”

“Don’t you dare use my own words against me.” I whispered, balling my hands into fists. “That’s not what I meant and you know it.”

The corner of his lips pulled up as a single tear rolled down his cheek. “This is my sacrifice, Phoebe. And if it keeps you alive, I’d do it a million times over. Let me do this. I need to.”
