I was the one who asked you when you were happiest and i'm so sorry ;_; I was hoping to make you happy and pumped up, not the opposite. <3 <3 <3
Oh no I'm fine, it's just, like, when someone breaks up with you, there's always this feeling like you could have done something differently to keep it together, but when we broke up there was nothing. We were too far apart and she wasn't happy where she was so she had to end it. Sometimes when you talk to someone you just forget how far away you are, and you forget how different your place in the world is because it's so easy to keep in touch with people so far away.
It just hurts because she looked so happy when we were together. She looked radiant and she was strong and sharp and she always had a joke or a pun and her eyes would shimmer when she was excited and when I looked at her sometimes I would forget to breathe. And when we broke up she just sounded so defeated the strength was gone from her voice she just couldn't do it any more and it killed me to see someone I cared about so much like that and to know I couldn't do anything for her.
And like I still have feelings for her and if we were in the same city I would be with her in a heartbeat but I can't do it. I miss her, and I miss how happy we were, but I just think that that joy is a goal for me. I will find someone, maybe it's her and maybe it's someone else, and they will make me feel the same way, or they will make me feel even stronger.
I can't hold on to that moment forever but it's like a goal for me. I want to find someone who makes me feel the way I did that night. I want to find someone I can make feel that way. Someone who feels safe when they're with me, like nothing can stop them. I want to look at someone and see them glowing, and then to forget to breathe for a moment when I realize they're glowing because of me. I want someone who can't hear my heart rushing as we lay tangled in bed because their ears are filled with the sounds of their own heart pounding. I want someone I can look at and make me think holy shit this person likes me and makes me forget what I was about to say. I want someone who can shut me up with a single word, whispered gently into my ear. I want someone who's happiness is my number one priority.
Maybe someday that night won't mean anything to me any more, but right now, that stormy Iowa City night was the happiest moment of my life, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
