I get that people want to make others understand why it's not okay to joke about things like that -- because it isn't okay -- but throwing a tantrum is only stirring the pot of drama even more. If you calmly try to explain to someone why it's not okay and they still don't get it, then it's obviously not going to get through to them no matter what you do. Opinions don't change overnight and insulting and belittling them for it is not going to convince them they should change their opinion -- in fact, it probably has the exact opposite effect. I'd rather put my energy into consoling those that were triggered than wasting my energy on someone whose opinion may not change.
