#the young apprentice

When you got back to the tower, Tony chewed you out for your lack of communication, and not looking out for other members. After about a thirty minute lecture you left the tower in search for a quiet place to sit and think. After an hour of sipping on your coffee and picking at a now cold blueberry scone, you heard the door open to the cafe and in walked a soaking wet Peter. He scanned the room before finding you in the corner. He made his way to your booth and sat across from you, giving you a smile.

"Mr. Stark sent me to look for you."

"Yeah, he does that when I wander off. Probably thinks I will destroy the city if someone is watching over me. How did you find me?"

"A few months ago at the tower, you told me this was the best place to melt away."

"Still is." You breathed in the fresh smell of coffee and the new lily arrangement on the table.

"I like coming here on occasion. It's a good place to escape from the superhero thing and sometimes Mr. Stark."

"That's why I told you about it. I found it when I was starting my Shield training. Wouldn't have survived without it." The waiter made his way over to the booth noticing a new guest had arrived. He took Peters order and walked back behind the counter. Peter turned his attention back towards you.

"I know you've been under Mr. Starks wing longer than I have but don't worry about what he said today. I heard from the other room, and you had it off easy. Once when I was out with Mr. Stark, I accidently shot my web at him and let's say that my lecture was for about two hours." You let out a laugh. You could just imagine Peter accidentally shooting Tony, oh only if you could have been there to see that.

"Everyone makes mistakes Peter. Today was just my day to make one. But Tony wasn't wrong to yell at me. I need to work on communicating with others, and I know I suck at it. When I started at the tower I was kind of hoping to take over for Nat one day. She typically gets to work alone." You took a sip of your coffee and stared back out the window watching the people walk by.

"(Y/n)?" You turned your attention back to Peter who had a look of concern on his face. "Do you ever worry about becoming an Avenger?" You let out a sigh and stirred your coffee as you thought about his question.

"I worry that I won't be good enough. I fear that I won't live up to the Iron Man name. I'm worried that I will let Tony down. My training at Shield never dealt with much of the scientific, engineering type thing. I was more of a hands on, weapons fighter. I never saw myself in the suit."

"But Fury put you there. Obviously, he knew what he was doing. And Tony wouldn't have agreed to let you be in charge of his legacy if he didn't believe you could do it. "

"I'm pretty sure Fury forced him into it." Peter was about to speak but was interrupted by the waiter setting down his mug. You both took a second before resuming the conversation.

"Okay. I'm not supposed to tell you this. Or show you this... because I kind of stole this, but I found your record sort of just lying out on Tony's desk earlier today and well I was curious and on my way to see you so." He slid a large file across the table to you. Peter took a sip from his coffee and motioned for you to open the file. You flipped the page open and flipped through your reports. "Flip to your halfway Shield training reports." You flipped through the papers until you finally made it to the page. You glanced down at the bottom where you noticed big bold red letters that read.

"I want (y/n) as my apprentice" Right below the words you could see Tony’s signature. You looked back up at Peter.

"You haden't even finished your training yet, and Mr. Stark knew he wanted you. I trust Mr. Stark and his decisions. Well, most of his decisions. But when it comes to the suit he believes in you." You could feel a smile creep onto your face. Although you were still worried about your future, this helped you immensely.

"Thank you, Peter. I needed this. And thanks for finding me."

"No problem, babe."  

"What on earth is babte?"

"Best apprentice buddies till the end."

"Sometimes Peter I just don't understand you."
