A big part of this is that his blindness is the butt of the joke, which... Is kind of just making fun of blindness. Which leads into the next reason I'm making this rant.

I saw an courtroom objection animation with the three, ashfur and squirrelflight (I think, I can't remember) and when jayfeather pops onto screen at the "objection!" hes facing the wrong way which irritated me, he's blind, not stupid. Making him face the wall instead of turned towards the podium like his siblings is inherently ableist, while his blindness affects him it doesn't affect his ability to do anything his siblings could do.

Pulled straight from The Sight, Chapter eight page 99, "Jaypaw decided not to tell her that he could already feel the slope beneath his paws."

""Watch out!" Brightheart called, but Jaypaw could smell the bark ahead of him and swerved just in time to avoid the tree, his whiskers grazing the trunk."

""Stop here," Brightheart meowed. But Jaypaw had already halted, feeling the land drop steeply away at his pawtips."

On page 100 he describes the different territories, able to tell where they are because of the scent of the moor and the pines, aswell as the way the wind is blowing and the nearing rain, stating how riverclan will get the rain first. Brightheart says, "You can tell all that without seeing it?" and he replies "Yes, of course." He does take a tumble right after this, but I think even an able-visioned apprentice would've slipped, it was muddy. Of course, Jaypaw does have the mishap of falling into the stream beside windclan but only because he'd never been there before. Generally, he has a good understanding of whats going on around him. We see this when he ventures out following Leafpool to the moonpool, and when he goes out to find the stick from the lake.

Overall, while his blindness does sometimes get him into problems, however able-visioned cats have made the same mistakes and they can see! And, being the butt of the joke is ableist. Treating him differently because of his disability is ableist. If a disabled person wants your help they will ask for it.
