Anyone else notice that both the Protectorate and Auntie's Choice rely on the same exact propaganda tactics to keep their citizens under control for the most part? Aside from Mental Refreshment, their wireless stations are both reliant on the exact same messages.
Selling alcohol and smokes to keep their citizens from thinking. Telling those citizens through song to throw away their thoughts and focus on work. Demonizing the other government (which isnt hard to do.) If you get hurt or injured at work, its for the greater good for everyone. And in either situation a dictator is making the major decisions FOR you (whether its explicit or hidden behind a false sense of freedom)
I just find the way these governments and factions are being presented to be very interesting.

Illustrations of the 2nd (and last) Lord Protector Richard Cromwell and Lord Deputy (eventually Lord Lieutenant) of Ireland Henry Cromwell. They were the surviving sons of the infamous Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell. These illustrations were published in around 1820.
Hi, I have a reading suggestion for disability pride month! The Protectorate trilogy by Megan E. O'Keefe features a disabled main character who lost her leg before the story even begins. Despite there being a lot of plot and different characters, her disability isn't shoved aside or just used for plot convenience. There are whole sections of her trying to learn how to adjust to having one leg, to being able to get the accessibility and aid that she requires. On top of that, she is a soldier in a sci-fi setting, but oftentimes she is described as having to take care of thigh and the prosthetic after missions. it's a great series, and I loved the focus of a main character having a disability.
