There's something so beautiful about Misfits and Magic season 2 looking at a bunch of people in their 20s who had their YA magical adventure where they shook everything up hunger games style and disrupted the system, asking them "okay what now?" And them going "I don't know, I never asked to be the hero of the story" and then when told "well you could just give it up, turn away, let it go back to the rotting foundation it was built on where people will find a way to exploit each other and create a familiar yet different system of power" they turned to the possibility of "What happens when we strip away the foundation that generations before us built and left and built on top of, and face the unknown."
It's really, really nice, seeing characters do what you hope you'd be brave enough to do when handed the reigns to the system that keeps fucking up the world. We don't need to be magic cops, we need to unmake the systems that required magic cops in the first place.

m&m soulmate au in that soulmates share familiars. essentially familiars show up with the soulmate of whoever they're bonded to (this happens pretty early in their life usually but no set age/date) and when soulmates meet they swap familiars
when I made this au I had sam/evan as soulmates and jammer/k as soulmates because I thought it was funny but it turns out I'm a genius
sam with a huge creepy shadow following her around. asking it politely to help adjust her lighting rig. reminding it firmly that her shadow is NOT sentient so don't bug it
evan with a teeny tiny teacup pig that makes his life 10000000% more stressful because he MUST keep this thing alive and it's so small and soft and alien to him
jammer with theodore. can u imagine. he sneaks him nuts in exchange for test answers even though theodore is a chipmunk and doesn't know long division. theo has to remind him multiple times that he doesn't actually know who their person is, they'll know when they know- no, not even just to tell you if they're a librarian. he doesn't know. jammer gets him a little jersey and teaches him to play basketball
K furious about having a sentient basketball, their soulmate is a JOCK!?!?? there must be some mistake, no one can know about this, this is the worst thing to- oh, the sentient basketball is kind of helpful when they can't remember where they left that one hoodie. okay, turns out dribbling is actually a really good stim to calm down and it helps them think. maybe this jock isn't so bad.
