hi anon! i am always down for talking about the merrick family. 

so pat sugden, robert’s birth mother, was married to a guy called tom merrick before she married jack. 

she had three (i’ll get back to this in a sec) children with tom; jackie, sandie, and tommy.

now. the the eldest, jackie, was actually jack’s son, not tom’s, which as you can imagine led to Great Things because this is a soap. anyway, jackie was awesome (and interesting tidbit for you; he did not like sarah at first and tried to stop her and robert bonding. it’s was Great (read: i’m so glad he changed his mind!). also interesting; jackie merrick (sugden) is, in fact, the only full blooded sibling of robert jacob sugden. (not that that means anything, i just think it’s interesting.) it’s also devastating because jackie was killed (by his own gun in an accident) when he was 26, and when robert was only 3 :((((

so. sandie is next! sandie, my queen, is amazing. she was Amazing and had some good storylines, not least the pregnant at 15 storyline where she gave birth to louise (more on her later). sandie had an affair (i know, like sister like brother??????) which was revealed to the entire pub by the guy’s daughter (which again, what!!!), and she then slapped said daughter. (the daughter was called diane, which is hilarious to me, but sadly not diane sugden who deserves a slap sometimes - come back, sandie, and slap her - actually don’t, i don’t mean that, violence is wrong). ANYWAY. sandie lived in mill cottage!!!!!!! which makes me happy because now her brother is living there, what a Blessing. can you tell i love sandie a lot? no. oh. anyway she left the village to go and live in scotland with her father.

TOMMY MERRICK. honestly, i know sod all about tommy except that he’s the child between sandie and robert. he left when pat left for scotland with tom, but only she, sandie and tom returned WITHOUT TOMMY? where is he? what was he doing? he was like, THREE. where is tommy, everyone :( (in my head he lives in scotland and has a family.) (okay so the wonderful @victoriasugden informs me (reminds me?) that it was mentioned at some point that tommy lives/lived in australia at some point. maybe with more merrick family members. WHO KNOWS.)

lastly; LOUISE MERRICK. louise is sandie’s daughter who she put up for adoption after giving birth to her. she was born in ‘82 and is thus four years older then robert. this gives me life and i don’t know why.
