Here's the kind of filth you can look forward to on tonight's episode of CITY SLANG. We've got THE FAMINES ON THE SHOW!
Sometimes it's hard to let go. 2012 was a fantastic year for music, and we haven't had enough time to talk about and appreciate it all. This small Favourites of '12 series is meant to remedy that.
I've had the great fortune of witnessing some of the best live music Canada (and beyond) has to offer over 2012. My deepest thanks to the wonderful artists and promoters who get me into these shows so I can tell you about them. And to my wallet for getting me into the rest.

A show would have to be pretty magical to shake the Sappy hold on my heart, and as I browse through photos of Fucked Up and reminisce over the wide grins of The Mouthbreathers, I'm transported back to that hazy, hot August long weekend. Click through the title for my Sappyfest festival recap.
Some runners-up:
Leonard Cohen at Colisée Pepsi, Quebec -- our poet laureate of love, sex, religion, and death jogged on and off stage, and in between those jogs, he played for 3+ hours. Yeah, that's pretty impressive.
The Famines, Yellowteeth, Maiden Names at ReNeu Boutique, Fredericton (link) - three unabashedly guitar-worshipping garage bands play in a consignment store to a crowd of 20. And I still wanted to crowd surf.
Colin Stetson at Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (review) - music is always physical, and sometimes it's a beast you have to beat back into the instrument when it's trying to escape and wreak favoc. Thanks to Stetson, I'm alive to tell the tale. "In short, holy shit."
