after beating Jason’s heart out, I think it’s safe to say that I’m in love with Combat Initiation. The fast gameplay, the gear synergies, the pogoing and movement, it all brings a tear to my eyes. But there’s a specific detail that I want to highlight that goes really underappreciated.
As someone who grew up playing Elemental Battlegrounds (if you know that game I wish you all the joy there is in the world), Imbuements are the fucking coolest thing ever. You’re telling me this bomb is now infused with fire, greatly improving its damage, FUCK YES.
ALL THE IMBUEMENTS!! FIRE! ICE! ELECTRICITY! METAL! PLASMA! EVEN ENERGY?! These different main imbuements are each achieved by different methods, being the Firebrand, Freeze Ray, Wizard deaths/that one Core, a Scatterblater pulse, the Ninja Star’s Kunai, and a Reflector Shield. That’s 4 weapons, a gear, and a specific enemy you need to kill to get all of the imbuements.
And because of this, the imbuement system encourages teamwork and coordination. Server full of six people? At least one person’s gotta have one of each of those weapons. You can turn a bomb or a sentry into a group project, and that’s fucking glorious.
The picture of around 5-4 different people, each with a wildly different loadout, all contributing something different into a random person’s bomb/sentry, mixing elements and concocting a standard object into something to be feared for miles, each in a different way, combining all of their strengths, into something ultimate. How is that not cool?
