The Backstagers, Volumes 1-3 by James Tynion IV. Rating: 3.5 stars averaged.

Read from January 12th to 13th.

Another set of comics read from the library. I picked these up on a whim when I returned the Wayne Family Adventures volumes this past weekend. It was really just supposed to be something to read while waiting for the hold I had on a new release came in today. It was more fun than I was expecting since I was never part of a theater group. I had some friends in theater but I wasn't ever part of the group. I think if I had been then I would have enjoyed these comics even more.

I found the characters to be fun and funny. My favorite characters? I'm not sure. Jory is our main character so I definitely felt connected to him and his relationship with Hunter. I do like the two main actors that are a conflict point for the Backstagers, but in a "these characters are horrible and I want them to keep committing atrocities" kind of way. But otherwise the rest of the characters were just fine. I didn't love the storyline in the Encore volume with Beckett. Beckett doesn't like Valentine's Day because it makes him feel lonely but everyone kept making jokes about him being a robot which wasn't great.

Artober Day 4: The Backstagers!

So next is The Backstagers, by James Tynion and Rian Sygh! I think I remember picking up this book while at the library then putting it back for the next trip (because of course I had grabbed a bunch of comics) and then Jessi had grabbed it and was like, this looks cool and then recommended I read it before it got returned, lol. It was a really fun one, I had to look up a short summary to job my memory on it, but I loved the art style, and I loved the bittersweet story. Like, the kids are fine, just the past was so sad, but I was glad there was an eventual resolution.
