oh this is killing me...

The show hasn’t changed my feelings about Thalia or thaluke at all…yet.

Ah…I generally like Thalia in the book. Even though she sometimes treats Luke poorly (like girl, you’ve been with him for two years now and he’s been nothing but good to you, it’s time to at least stop hiding basic things from him like what the name of the goat you’ve been following for three fucking days is).

Okay. Hold please. I need to…recalibrate.

I like Thalia because Luke loves Thalia. I like Thalia because Luke is so obviously her dog and that’s a side of him that we don’t get to see much of except in Demigod Diaries. He ignores all of his instincts and does whatever Thalia wants just because he wants her happy and he’s so afraid of losing her. And you can’t even blame Luke for that, because Luke was completely alone from ages 9-12 (that’s three years) and Thalia was his first ever friend.

Thalia herself? I’m mostly meh on, for the most part.

I don’t really blame her for the dick measuring contest she gets in with Percy after she gets out of the tree. I don’t really like that she’s a Hunter, but I don’t blame her because they were talking about killing her (again) and it’s more of a narrative thing.

I do blame her for drinking the Camp Half-Blood kool aid because what the fuck is that all about. Your dog is literally right there waiting for you and if it wasn’t for him, you’d still be a fucking tree being used as a battery for the camp’s force field (which is basically useless because they summon monsters inside the border all the time and anyone can do it - ANYWAY). I understand that narratively she couldn’t join Kronos because then she’d sweep the prophecy out from under Percy’s feet, but also…I don’t think for a second that the girl who stayed up with Luke talking about how they were going to bring down the gods would have been on the side of the gods. Not after Hal, not after Hades killed her, not after being turned into a fucking tree by Zeus, not after finding out what happened to Jason, not if she had actually lived at Camp Half-Blood instead of fucking off with the Hunters.

I also like Thalia because the only one she’s ever soft with is Annabeth and fuck literally everybody else. Which is funny considering how Thalia reacted when they met (so frozen she was literally scaring Annabeth) but she bonded very quickly to Annabeth (which is is also funny considering that Thalia got stuck raising Jason because Beryl was too drunk to do it and normally that leads to “fuck I don’t want to raise my younger sibling” not “I really want to raise another child” but I guess Jason getting taken away crossed some wires in Thalia’s brain). And Thalia is pretty much the only person that Annabeth respects at all. This is where I come out to you as a thaliabeth shipper (if you didn’t already know).

Annabeth has feelings for Thalia, they’re unwavering, untouched and untapped because of comphet and she’s decided that it’s better to ignore them than to address what she feels. She’s already lost Luke, and she doesn’t want to ruin Thalia, beside she’s technically older than her now anyways, since Thalia’s a hunter and forever 15.

And sure, she loves Percy, but she’d move continents if Thalia asked her to, she’d find a way. Thalia makes her bones bend and twist in a way that only she can, and Annabeth chalks it up to Thalia being like her sister, but she knows all too well.

Thalia’s a hunter and doesn’t get to see Annabeth much, but when they do it’s like the stars are aligning, they reminisce about the old days and talk about Luke in the present tense, like he’s still here with them.

The thing about Thalia is that she’d do anything that Annabeth asked her to, because she’s her responsibility and letting her down is just not an option, not after everything they’ve been through together.

One time Annabeth is babbling on about life, about how she loves Percy and how she’s so happy to go to college in New Rome and begin a life that isn’t defined by their parents, but there’s something in those eyes, a hint of pain, and it can’t be hidden.

Thalia pushes and asks what’s wrong, Annabeth just kind of starts crying, comes out and what not, and lets it slip that she had a crush on Thalia, but it’s gone now, because she’s a huntress and she’d never ask her to give that up.

But Thalia, it feels like she needs to give Annabeth what she’s wanted, because she can tell it’s still lurking. It’s so wrong in so many ways, because they’ve told each other they’re sisters for years, and she can’t find a bone in her body that cares, because Annabeth needs something, she needs love, and Thalia could never tell her no, not after everything they’ve been through together.

So Thalia kisses her to keep Annabeth’s lips off the liquor, feeling a rush of energy when Annabeth’s tongue slips into her own mouth.
