that rise and fall.

It was strange. The yesterday she had in her mind seemed so close to her. She could extend a finger and brush against the sunset she had watched in her memory, feel the fading orange and purple hues with her skin. The taste of the tea she had drank lingered on her tongue but it was not real. Time had passed, as they had said, but no time had passed at all for Akari. She was still poised for the tomorrow where she would awaken in the warmth of her bed with the muted morning light seeping softly in from her window.
Looking up, Akari gazed at the tall tower that was to be her home. It rose into the sky like a giant’s castle, penetrating the clouds and vanishing into the surrounding whiteness. She walked forward with her head still held upwards. In front of the tower she felt like an ant facing a tree for the first time. Akari could not help her breathless wonder. “It’s a castle in the sky.”
She managed to say before ambling straight into someone else.
