There is a telugu play named "Gayopakhyanam"
In it,one time, krishna was offering prayers to surya. Gaya,a gandharva, was flying in the sky with his consorts, eating paan. He spit the paan out,and it fell into krishna's hands, the latter vowed to kill the person who spit in his hand.
When Narada told Gaya of krishna's vow,Gaya went to Arjuna for protection, but did not mention Krishna’s name,so,Arjuna vowed to protect Gaya, but then he came to know it was krishna, and could not go back on his vow,but at the same time, did not want to fight krishna.
Upon seeing arjuna, krishna tried to offer peace, but arjuna could not go back on his vow,and then they had a whole war type thing, but then shiva stopped them
Of course, this is just a play, and it diverges a lot from their dynamic in the Mahabharata, but I liked it a lot,it gives fanfic vibes, lol
Oh yea one of the elders I know told me this story. It's a funny one and you're right, it does give fanfic vibes xD.
I remember being slightly shocked at how offended Krishna was at a mistake, like valid crashout but chill dawg it was a mistakeee ToT.
In the oral version I was told, Krishna was asking Arjun to step aside cuz he obv didn't wanna fight him. I'm sure Krishna and Shiva were having flashbacks to the Tezpur incident between them, cuz the same thing happened then too. Shiva vowed to protect Banasura, Krishna asked him to step aside, he didn't, and boom. War that named the city Tezpur (Blood city).
