some things about match point that I really like so far / my theories / headcanons :
- the fact that it starts in the present and tells us the story through flashbacks. we already know the final tennis match between sunbay is happening. we just gotta find out what happened before all that. i think it really keeps viewers engaged, at least if the target audience is me.
- boat is introduced as a typical black sheep of the asian family. i use the words black sheep very unseriously because it really is that level of unserious here. asian households throw a fit because you didn't get an A+ and got an A instead. this guy basically dropped med school, he is in deep shit. I also think there's allusions to him being depressed, which is why he quit studying in the first place but we'll see. also the fact that his dad keeps telling everyone he is studying medicine? goddamn nightmare fuel. my parents do the same but only by telling people I earn more than I do because my salary is “shameful” lmao
- the fact that both sun and bay know a lot about each other and they use it to make digs at the other. i especially loved the rooftop scene where bay asks sun if he even loves tennis or is simply doing it because his dad told him to. and similarly for sun telling bay he is a quitter in everything.
I wonder how it feels for both of them. they clearly do not know yet what they want from life, which, understandable, they are like barely 18. but sun is good at what he does, in fact I bet he is an overachiever and he's been told all his life how good he is at everything, so ultimately he has no idea what the fuck he should even do.
and bay is treading very carefully because he has seen his brother fail. his brother is his role model, which means he knows he doesn't want to get stuck doing something he hates and therefore he is trying his best to figure out what he really enjoys.
- finally the scene where we see bay going through a tonne of emotions when sun says he is leaving. he is clearly upset but there's also a lot of things he doesn't understand. my best bet is on that they are both pining but just don't understand it yet because that is how they've felt about each other all their lives.
+ last but not the least, my boy chimon. I love kong so much. he just seems like such a lovely guy. it seems he and boat have known each other for a while, they were probably schoolmates too. from the trailer it's evident that kong likes boat and from episode 1, it seems boat likes kong too. he is very flustered around him, which is a delight to watch. I hope they get their happy ending soon.
ahhh anyway, that's about it. no liveblog for this one, but I'll catch the second episode next week.
