ššāļø !
!!! YES
IāM HONESTLY SO GLAD?Ā
Like SOMEONE should be able to wring some comedy out of that piece of shit. Personally I start at rage and then pass into comatose boredom around the time the hetero smooching starts happening.Ā

Look at the wonderful box I got from @tenderhook, @prawnlegs, and @sadish-radish! Zines and candy and good trash children!
Theyāre such good friends, and I look up to them so much - I wouldnāt have been able to navigate coming out half so well without their advice.
Itās so hard being away from @anton-mordrid, and this makes things feel a little less lonesome. Iām so lucky.

tenderhook replied to your post āI went to look up Takeshi Miikeās IMDB because of reasons and found...ā
i don't know anything about Blade of the Immortal but i love Miike. have you seen the Great Yokai War? dude is surprisingly versatile
So Blade of the Immortal is a comic with amazing art that I loved as a teenager.Ā Itās particularly notable for its over-the-top fight sequences and lovingly detailed full page spreads of dudes getting chopped up really artistically.Ā The art style is very different from typical manga art, which is what I liked about it when I was younger.Ā In terms of visual aesthetic and mood, itās literally perfect for Takeshi Miikeās directoral style. Ā
But itās also, like, 50 different kinds of ~problematic~ particularly in regards to sexual violence against women.Ā In the manga itās generally not super explicit as far as I remember but I can easily see that becoming more overt in a live-action adaption.Ā The saving grace of the manga was that a lot of the women also get some really righteous scenes where they murder the people who hurt them, but I feel like a live adaption would be different.Ā The trauma more traumatic and the payoff less worth it.
I dunno, itās been a LONG time since I read it and at this point I would literally never recommend it to anyone but it was definitely a formative work of fiction for me.Ā And hey, the series is super long, maybe theyāll just conveniently cut out those scenes so they can spend more time on outrageous choreographed murder.
...ALSO I havenāt seen the Great Yokai War, but if you recommend it Iām definitely curious.Ā I actually usually find his stuff pretty interesting.Ā
