#communaleffort Earlier I posted a close up photo of the The #templeofdirection at #burningman by Geordie Van Der Bosch. However I wanted to tell this story of the community helping me stay safe. As I decided to switch to a wider lens on some #wind came up and a few #vortexes formed. Sparks started flying in the air. However they were not small sparks. They may look like that from hundreds of feet away. But up close some are large embers some up to 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. many if these burning #embers were flung into the air by those winds and vortexes. just as I was getting ready to shoot the photo i shot a test shot (this photo) to check light and metering, I was preparing to take a wide format photo of the temple with the structure in clear view (not covered by smoke like this shot). just as I am about to take the photo, A 6 inch burning ember lands on me and gets lodged between my camera bag, on my back, and my neck. It burned through the bag and several layers of clothes. @malcomcarterfilmmaker and other film makers dropped everything they were doing and jumped on me to get the backpack off of me and started getting the broken embers out of my clothing. It burned holes all the way through the clothes and bag, but thanks to the others around me that dropped everything, (missing key shots for the projects they were filming) to help out a human out and out their projects down. I can’t even begin to thank them enough. They missed key moments for their content, but due to their help I escaped with some blisters covering my neck and back, but not much more. This could have gone horribly worse had the community not jumped into action. Thank you. @templeofdirection @burningman @burningmanphotos #fire #tornado #dustdevil #burn (at Burning Man) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3H6h4knsik/?igshid=105j9nf7gypg5
