he doesn't do well with crowds. never has. he's a bit solitary by nature, only willing to let a exemplary few near him for fear of what he'd be tempted to do if he were to ever lose himself. that's just how it is: he's more a potential liability than an actual guest.

...but karla wanted to go. wanted him to go with her.

and he can never say no to his sister.

admittedly, he hadn't bothered to dress himself particularly nicely like she had — nothing fits him quite as well as his usual clothing, maybe he's gotten a bit attached — but he has at least fastened his clothing properly as to not embarrass karla at a presumably formal event.

the bracelet and associated charms lay somewhere in the inside of his coat, secure enough that it won't be left somewhere to rot but otherwise mostly forgotten. his mind is somewhere far away from the ball, just a bit closer to the home he lost so long ago than he's been in years.

perhaps there will be some peace to be found here.
