The parts I did for an art swap meme with @teethhoarder. I drew the line art for Gilbert and Teeth drew the line art for Arthur.
We chose mermaid and space for the themes for mermay and cause space is cool :)
SO.
My Main Bitch @teethhoarderā/Seb, and I were talking about the venues dotted throughout each country that Representatives no doubt use for meetings and conferences, much like the ones we see in canon.
I used to go along with a very underdeveloped headcanon that theyād use secluded areas for their meetings. Unassuming and dingy places like doors set into the walls of back alleys and the like, only for the doors to lead into lavishly decorated and hospitable venues fit for important, global discussions. BUT, considering how linked in a lot of Nation Reps are with their respective governments, I now donāt think it would be too far-fetched for them to meet in specific venues allocated by the government.Ā
Whenever we see a world meeting in either the anime or the manga, they seem to be in a pretty swanky place, right?
Those big windows and that marble bust in the background looks pretty fancy to me. While this particular room design seems to be reused a LOT, it would make sense for them to hold their deeply important talks in a building thatāsĀ big and fancy enough to accommodate every single Nation as well as the fights that seem to break out every time they hold one of these damn things. So it makes sense to me that since the guests look and act.. Strangely at best, there would probably only be 2 or 3 venues per country, and said venues would probably be places that ordinary people donāt usually holdĀ meetings in. Art galleries, big exhibition halls, performance halls, anywhere grand and artsy that can be rented out and also closed off to the general public for a certain amount of time. To me, at least, the building up there kind of looks like one of those fancy dining halls that rich fuckers meet in, rather than your average conference room. Of course, it would be fancy if this was all organised by the government.
Naturally, the staff would need to be in on the whole thing too as to not raise suspicion, my guess is that theyāre probably affiliated with the government in some way too, perhaps just enough to know that the āpeopleā currently using their venue probably ought not to be disturbed, and that everything they discuss has to be kept hush hush. Thatās just my take on it, but what I really found interesting about these venuesĀ was something Seb mentioned to me in our discord chat.
Nā¾un:Ā ALSO I'm thinking about the venues these guys use.Ā I'm willing to bet there's likeĀ one or two in each country. All the staff are government hired professionals, they all know what they are, stuff like that. And whenever humans use the venues they're like:Ā "huh, this place is spooky..."
TeethHoarder: wood is known to absorb spirit energy so it probably absorbs theirs too
THAT got my brain box thinking. This is probably getting a bit personal, but, have you guys ever been in a place that just gives you the creeps for some reason? Even if itās a place youāve been in before, you know it, but sometimes you just feel uneasy? The V&A Museum in London is kind of like that for me, normally Iām fine going there, but once in a while, the general atmosphere weirds me out a little, and I cannot for the life of me explain why.
I think that after a long and intense meeting, the humans that then go on to use the venue kind of feel.. Awkward, like theyāve just heard snippets of a conversation that they werenāt meant to hear. Iāve only really just begun to develop this little concept, but right now Iām calling it anĀ āechoā, a side-effect that can sometimes occur if more than two or three Representatives have been in the same room together for an extended amount of time. This side-effect can be anything from simply a strange feeling in the air to one hearing what almost sounds like whispering, or a ringing in oneāsĀ ears that they canāt quite explain, itās freaky and it makes them want to get out of there as quickly as possible. I think that in some cases, after big world meetings, the humans working in the venue can accidentally end up hearing snippets of what their recently-departed guests were talking about, an echo of their conversations.
Going back to what Seb said about wood absorbing energy, what if that āenergyā they mentioned takes its form in a type of vibration?Ā I am pretty damn sure that a Repās voice is not the same as a humanās. Their intonation isnāt quite the same, the volume they can reach is far higher than ours, their vocal range is much more flexible, andĀ the vibration their voices produce is bound to be a little different too. Not only that, but Representatives as a species are incredibly linked in with the natural world, and since wood is absolutely a natural material, it could theoretically work as some sort of sponge. A sponge that just so happens to end up leaking out the ever-so faint echoes of the words spoken by a group of near-godly beings.
Oddly enough, this is one of my more simpler lore-related posts, but somehow it feels far stranger to write than any of the others. The concept of wood absorbing energy and then spitting it back out at the unsuspecting humans just trying to do their job is absurd, but then again - so is the rest of my lore!Ā
On a final note: thanks once again to Seb / @teethhoarderā for talking with me about this and also giving me some cool ideas. Yāall should totally go and check out their art, they have commissions and ko-fi donations open and trust me, itās well worth giving them some cash if you want some hella artwork in return.
And now we have Mad Mod from Teen Titans š a gift to my patron @TeethHoarder š
