Young people have been taught a victorious and one sided Eurocentric view of US and world history that ignores, hides, or completely erases the stories of most Black, Indigenous, Asian American, Latino/a/x, and Middle Eastern people. Teaching these histories is not just about diversity. It’s about valuing the experiences of these Black and Brown people. It’s also about challenging the racist and imperialist US narrative and their power. And challenging that narrative makes society today crystal clear which is why critical race theory, ethnic studies, and even children’s books are being challenged or banned. Support ethnic studies in your local school. The statement “Ethnic Studies in Every School” is an attempt to encourage teachers and students learning and teaching it to keep going. I hella appreciate you.
I made A ptg like this 3 years ago for the TYS Collective 16 yr anniversary and decided to do it again w/a a new mix of teens, symbols, and phrases.
