During the rabi seasons of 2012-13 and 2013-14, demonstrations on rapeseed variety M 27 were held at farmers' fields in the West Garo Hills region of Meghalaya under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) programme, covering an area of 461 ha with 863 farmers. The goal of the study was to look into the yield gap and the economics of rapeseed farming. On average, over the course of two years, demonstrations resulted in a 32.36 percent higher grain output than standard farming approaches. 211 kg/ha, 137 kg/ha, and 13.70 percent, respectively, were the extension gap, technology gap, and technology index. An additional net return of Rs. 6030 per hectare was achieved by increased investments of Rs. 300 per hectare, scientific monitoring of demonstrations, and non-monetary factors. With an incremental benefit:cost ratio of 0.64, the benefit cost ratio was determined to be 2.94 in demonstration and 2.30 in farmers' practise.
