Since the boys storyâs have changed, does their initial relationships with each other change as well?
In some sense⊠yeah?I feel like I shared how the boys met each other, and uh⊠Steelâs introduction to the team has slightly changed since then. His motive for returning to the past has also changed a bit too as well, but I cannot say anymore.

A/N: This is the first NH prompt Iâve written in what feels like forever. I wonât be participating in every prompt this week but Iâll definitely promise you at least three. Hope you enjoy (itâs one of my favorites Iâve written for these two.)
âHinata, no.â
âReally, itâs fine.â She insisted, anxiously fiddling with the ends of her hair. âI want you guys toââ holding the phone away from her face momentarily, Hinata waited for her coughing fit to pass before inhaling deeply, pressing her phone against her cheek once more, âI want you guys to have fun.â
âBut itâs your birthday!â Ino all but shouted into the phone. Hinata winced, holding the phone away from her ear slightly. âWhat kind of friends would we be if we went out without the birthday girl?!â
She bit back a laugh. âDonât worry about it. Trust me, youâre going to have a lot more fun without me.â
âBullshit,â Sakura grumbled. Hinata could only imagine the two girls wrestling back and forth over Inoâs phone. âWe only have the most fun when weâre all together.â
âExactly. Who is going to hold Foreheadâs hair back now when she inevitably drinks herself sick? Iâm not doing it.â
Hinata couldnât help but smile upon hearing Sakura mutter something in the background that sounded like âfuck off Pigâ. And when she could hear the two start bickering she couldnât hold back her laugh.
âIâm serious you two. Go out, have fun. Iâll be here, drinking soup and watching Netflix.â
âBut how am I supposed to give you your gift!?â Ino whined, her attention back to her phone.
âYou can give it to me when I see you guys on Saturday for your New Yearâs Eve party!â
âBut then it wonât be your birthday anymore,â Hinata could hear the pout over the phone and had to sigh.
She shouldâve known they wouldâve protested as much as they were currently. She understood to an extent. It wasnât that she was too sick to go outâshe may have been exaggerating her up-and-coming cold that had notified her of its presence when she woke up that morningâbut she was sick, and she did have to go to Inoâs party four days from now. If she went out tonight there was no way sheâd be well enough to go to that.
Hinata wasnât a big fan of drinking and partiesâso she mainly went along with it all since most of her friend wereâbut if she had to choose when to do it, sheâd rather be at her best. And two parties in one week would simply be too exhausting for her little introverted heart to take.
So if it meant skipping out on her own âbirthday partyâ, she was alright with that.
âGo out. Have fun. Donât get too drunk. Iâll see you two on Saturday and weâll make up for the lost time then. Ino, you can give me your present then.â
A pair of giant, over-dramatic sighs were the only response she got.
Smiling, she continued, âCall your Uber and go have fun. I have a date with Netflix. Love you girls, see you Saturday.â
And as quickly as she could, as to not give them any further time to object, she held her breath and hung up the phone. She knew her best friends, and she knew that if she didnât end the call, sheâd likely be suckered into going regardless. She already felt a tad bit guilty for cancelling but reasoned with herself the same way her friends would.
It was her birthday, so realistically she could lay in bed all night if she wanted.
Letting out a deep breath, she laid back further on her bed and reached for her laptop.
Across town, two womenâdressed to impress and with faces very carefully made upâfrowned at each other across the couch they were sitting on.
The blonde sighed, turning her attention back toward her phone and sighed, idly tapping the blank touch-screen with carefully manicured fingers.
âSo what?â Her pink-haired companion asked. âWe still go out? Thatâs hardly an option now.â
The blonde was silent for a few more seconds before an idea struck her. Slowly, a wicked grin spread across her face.
âOh no,â Sakura deadpanned. âI know that look. Thatâs not a good look. Whatâre you thinking of?â
She rolled her eyes, âItâs nothing bad. Wipe that look off your face, itâs ugly.â
Sakura huffed, blowing a carefully curled piece of hair out of her face. âAlright fine. Whatâs the plan?â
Ino simply grinned wider, âWe send her gift to her.â
It was four episodes in when Hinata decided that maybe picking one of the more⊠paranoia-inducing shows that the streaming service offered maybe wasnât the best idea. Especially since she was trying to have a relaxing night.
Pausing the show, Hinata was scrolling through the seemingly endless list of shows and movies when she felt her phone buzz. Unlocking her phone she found a text waiting for her.
Ino: hey girl!!!! i know you said you could wait until saturday for your present
Ino: BUT
Ino: i have a lil something comin your way right now lol
Ino: you can thank me later LOVE YOU LOTS
Hinata frowned. She loved Ino but sometimes she didnât quite trust her when it came to certain things.
Surprises being one of them.
And when Sakura texted the group chat a couple minutes laterâŠ
Sakura: for the record this is all Inoâs idea
Sakura: I told her not to. be nice to him though
⊠she really began to worry.
What?! Sitting up abruptly in bed she opened up her messages and the panic set in.
Hinata: What do you mean âhimâ?
Hinata: What are you guys talking about? What gift?
Hinata: Ino I told you you could give me your gift on Saturday
Hinata: Are you guys stopping by?
She desperately hoped that if she was getting a gift tonight, it would be those two stopping by to deliver it.
And as the minutes passed, even despite the fact that neither of them replied to her panicked texts, she decided that maybe Sakuraâs text had been a typo. âHimâ could have easily meant to be âherâ, which would have clearly been referring to Ino and not some random guy.
Even as she went back to watching Netflixâsome random animated show she could hardly even pay attention toâshe forced herself to push down her fears. It was probably Ino coming over to drop off her present. Sheâd see Hinata sick, sheâd maybe drop the present off, blow her a kiss, and go. No harm, no foul.
Minutes later when the doorbell rang she pulled herself up out of bed, grabbing her robe as she exited her room, she halfway hoped she looked sicker than she felt. The last thing she needed was for her friend to chew her out for playing hooky (which she hadnât technically done, since she was a little sick.)
But when she opened the door, it wasnât Ino standing there or Sakura. Or anyone she knew for that matter.
A man, perhaps not much older than she was, stood in front of her, a pizza box in his arms.
He was tall, at least an entire foot taller than she was. He had a head of spiky blonde hair and big blue eyes so bright she couldnât help but stare at them. But what stood out more than anything was that he was altogether entirely gorgeous. And when he smiled at her, she couldâve turned into a puddle right then and there.
Instead she simply slammed the door in his face.
And immediately opened up her messaging app.
Hinata: WHAT IS GOING ON
Hinata: THIS BETTER NOT BE MY PRESENT!
Hinata: INO! THIS ISNâT FUNNY!
Her face was blood red as her fingers flew across the touch-screen, embarrassment causing every coherent thought to fly from her mind.
She knew Ino was a bit⊠lewd⊠sometimes. But she never in a million years thought theyâd call a stripper to her house for her birthday! Although now that she thought about it, they had joked about going to a strip club for Sakuraâs birthday in MarchâŠ
When her phone began buzzing she jumped, answering the call before she could think the action through.
âIno! This isnât funny! Call him off!â
There was a bit off silence on the other end before a confused male voice spoke up.
âUm? Is this Hinata?â
Oh shit.
âI, uh, have a delivery for you.â He certainly didnât sound as confident as he looked a few seconds ago, and stripper or not, the thought that sheâd insulted him made her feel immediately guilty. âThis is Hinata right? This is the number that was left on the order form.â
âIâIâm sorry!â She squeaked, âJustâuhâgive me a mâminute!â
Ending the call Hinata sent a couple more semi-threatening messages before approaching her door once more.
Swallowing thickly, she placed her hand on the doorknob and thought to herself for a few seconds, making up her mind about what she was going to do about the situation before her.
Swinging the door open, she met his confused gaze with her own firm look, and holding her breath she opened the door wider and stepped aside, inviting him in.
He seemed hesitant about coming inside but walked across the threshold nonetheless, still awkwardly holding the pizza box. Idly, Hinata wondered if there was even a pizza inside it. Thatâs when she noticed the plastic bag looped through his arm. Her stomach twisted itself up into anxious knots imagining what on earth he could be toting around inside of it.
But before he could say anything, she knew she had to get her words out before she was too flustered to speak any further. (Or before he could start⊠removing⊠garmentsâŠ)
âListen IâIâm really sorry you had to come all the way out here. My friends must have ordered⊠thisâŠâ she gestured vaguely to his figure and immediately felt her embarrassment increase tenfold, âbut I donât know why they wouldâI mean Iâm not like that! Not that youâre like that! I mean!â She shook her head and in that moment hoped the floor would give way and swallow her into the apartment beneath her. âWhat I mean to say is! That Iâm sure all of this would be greatâIâm sure youâre great!âbut Iâm just⊠not interested in your servicesâŠâ
When she finally managed to look up at him again, she realized that he was looking at her with a very peculiar expression, mouth hanging open slightly and eyes narrowed in confusion.
âUm⊠okay⊠it is already paid for though soâŠâ
And with slow movements, he carefully moved toward her kitchen table, not breaking eye contactâŠ
âWell, uhâis there a way that my friends could get a refund? Or even not, I mean they donât really deserve a refund for doing this so you can just keep the money itâs alright Iâll even tip you if they didnât pay for a tip yetâyou people get tips right? Oh god, I donât mean âyou peopleâ I donât know why I said that. Iâm just Iâm so sorry that we inconvenienced you so much.â
As she spoke Hinata shuffled over to her purse, grabbing her wallet and pulling out a couple of bills.
âAgain, Iâm so sorry. This is so awkward. I hope you have a good night though!â She forced some false cheeriness into her words as she smiled up at him, holding out the money for him to take.
With a raised eyebrow and mouth still open, the gorgeous man simply placed the pizza box on her kitchen table, placing the plastic bag over top of it and scratched the back of his head awkwardly. Hinata couldnât help but watch as his shirt rose up ever-so-slightly to show off a very toned stomachâŠ
âIâve never met someone who hates pizza so much.â
Wait.
âPizza?â
He blinked at her a few times, looking from her and her outstretched hand to the box heâd just placed on her table. âYes? At leastâŠâ he opened the box, as if double-checking, before turning it toward her, âyeah. Pizza.â
Her mind seemed to short-circuit at this information and by the time she came back to her senses she was certain she was tomato-red.
âWait⊠so youâre⊠just a delivery guyâŠâ
âUh,â he looked down at his appearance, âyes? What else would I be?â
Embarrassment pulsing through her body she couldnât help it when she squeaked out, âA stripper?â
It took three seconds before the man was absolutely in stitches; his laughter starting out as an almost-concealed giggle and quickly turning into full-blown belly rumbling chuckles.
âYou,â he shook his head, bracing his arms against her table, as if trying to keep himself from falling to the floor in hysterics, âthought that I was a stripper?â
Not for the first time, Hinata found herself wishing the Universe would come up with a quick way to kill her right there. But instead of simply standing silently in humiliation, she couldnât help but try to defend herself.
âIâitâs almost 1AM!â
âWeâre open until two.â
âYou donât have a coat on! Itâs below freezing out!â
He shrugged, still laughing through his words, âI donât get cold very easily.â
âYeah but, short sleeves?!â
âI run warm.â
âYouâreâyouâreââ but Hinata snapped her mouth shut before she could say âabsolutely gorgeousâ.
âIâm a pizza delivery guy,â he confirmed for her with another laugh, âwell, part-time.â
âWait, so pizza is what Ino was talking about when she said I was getting a gift?â
âOh, waitâhold on a second.â He spoke as if heâd just remembered something. Then he quickly pulled his phone back out of his pocket and spent a few seconds swiping across the screen before looking back up at her. âReady?â
Hinata couldnât say anything, only stare back at him blankly as he straightened his posture and locked eyes with her.
âWant to hear a joke about pizza?â
She blinked at him, not saying anything. What was he doing now?
He grinned in reply to her silence, before reading off of his phone. âNever mind, itâs too cheesy.â
All Hinata did was stare back at him. Had that been⊠a pizza joke
âAll right. Bad one. I got it. Hereâs a better one,â he cleared his throat before reading, âOur romance would be a pizza history.â
Hinata couldnât help but snort at the dumb joke. When the sound escaped her, she slapped a hand over her mouth, not wanting to embarrass herself further.
âHave you eaten dinner? Because Iâd like a pizza thaââ He cut himself off, frowning. He then promptly cleared his throat, âMaybe not that one.â
Hinata couldnât help herself when she started laughing. Seemingly pleased with himself at the sound of her laughter, he put his phone and began to explain himself.
âIâm sorry if you were embarrassed by this whole thing,â he grinned sheepishly, âyour friends Ino and Sakura called me to deliver you some food so I did them a favor. I was specifically told to do some dumb pickup lines and then give you the food. Thatâs it.â
âAnd I just made it a thousand times worse,â she mumbled, tugging at the ends of her hair. âIâm so sorry about that by the way, I didnât mean toâI mean I thoughtââ
âYou know, if I were a stripper, Iâd probably be super offended right now,â he grinned as if he were struggling to keep himself from starting his laughter up again. âYou really tried to send me away.â
âIâm justâwait. A favor?â
He scratched the back of his neck again. âI do work part time as a delivery guy, but I kind of owed Sakura a favor and uh, Ino can be very threatening. Like, even over the phone.â
âWaitââ she pointed at him, as if finally putting the pieces together, âso Ino threatened you so youâd come here and flirt with me on the job.â
âEssentially,â he shrugged, like it was no big deal; as if it were something he did all the time. âI mean I wasnât even supposed to work today, I was actually supposed to go out with you all tonight. But,â he shrugged, starting to get all awkward.
âWhat?â Hinata asked, genuinely curious as to how the hell she ended up in this situation.
âWell they started telling me about how they had this friend whose birthday was today and they felt so bad so they wanted to order her food. But they wanted me to do it âcause Iâm âfunnyâ.â He scoffed, and then upon her persistent confusion, he elaborated. âWhen they say stuff like that I know is when theyâre trying to con me into doing something because like, I know Iâm funny, but theyâd never call me that. But they told me that you were stuck at home sick and that I could, I donât know, cheer you up I guess?â
He finished his statement by shrugging and breaking eye contact, rubbing the back of his neck.
âWow,â Hinata eventually muttered, still partially unbelieving at the fact that this attractive human being took time to come and give her pizza instead of go out with her friends. Granted, heâd apparently been threatened into doing it, but heâd done it nonetheless out of the kindness of his heart.
âHow do you know Ino and Sakura?â He eventually asked after a few long seconds of silence.
âWe were all roommates freshman year. You?â
âI knew Sakura back in high schoolâweâre from the same hometown. But we also used to work together.â
âAt the hospital?â
âNah, I donât work directly with the hospital. I work for a private EMT company. Part-time.â
Hinata found herself impressed, âHow many jobs do you have?â
âThree, technically,â he said like it was nothing, âI student teach on campus though, but I donât count that since I donât get paid for it.â
âWow, thatâs⊠busy.â
âEh, I like busy! Which is why I didnât care about clocking in to do a 1AM delivery too much.â
âWell I hate that you had to run into work late at night just for me,â Hinata muttered, feeling a misplaced sense of guilt for inconveniencing such a nice person. And for a moment, she paused, considering her next move. âIf you want⊠I definitely wonât be able to finish this pizza by myself.â
Biting her lip she didnât look up until she heard the rustling of the plastic bag.
âBefore I eat any of your pizza,â he spoke, forcing her to look up at him, âhere.â
And in his hands was a tiny plastic container he was holding out to her. Tentatively she took it from his hands, opening it to find a small piece of cake.
âItâs a little smashed, and I forgot to grab a candle, but I figured since it was your birthday and all, you deserved some sort of treat.â
âYour pizzeria sells cake?â
âAh,â he rubbed his neck again, ânot exactly. I uh, bought this myself. I just went to the 24 hour grocery store across town and begged them to open the bakery and give me a slice. Ino didnât make me do it, so donât yell at her for it. It was just me.â
Hinata then looked at himâreally looked at himâas he stood in front of her, practically a stranger who decided to go back and forth across town to deliver her pizza and a slice of cake.
And when she felt a tugging in her chest that she couldnât quite describe, all she could do was smile brightly at him, blinking back tears that she didnât understand, as she went to fetch plates for their pizza.
Sheâd have to apologize to Ino and Sakura for those texts.
