just the fact that the whole message of the song seems to be “stay alive. there’s always someone out there that cares for you. *i* care for you.” but knowing the circumstances of chester bennington’s death, this song always hits me particularly hard.
▸ cinema - ayase (YOASOBI) - performed by vivid bad squad
right off the bat had to put cinema. the blorbo feels are real. every time i read the lyrics while listening to it i want to cry (or i do cry). akito shinonome what have you done to me. (told me there’s always hope is what he did. look at him. he gave me bittersweet hope.)

i have fallen in love with the otherworldly sound and the sci-fi/post-future visuals of the MV. also miku and kaito just sound beautiful. i do appreciate very realistic vsyth tuning, but i also really like when composers lean in to the inherent electronic sound to produce something that feels incomplete when sung by humans. however i would say the MV calls for a minor body horror warning and an eye contact warning!
second option ▸ “a symptom of being human” - shinedown
shinedown is a solidly “dad rock” band, but because of my dad it’s very special to me. also i am a huge sucker for any song that’s message is “we’re all human. we’re all a little weird, but we’re all still people.“ even if it’s a little cringe i still always love it. i think everyone feels at some point like they’re somehow different than everyone else, an alien, an outsider, broken somehow. so i love any song that says “that’s OK. we have differences. but we are all still humans, and we all deserve to find happiness and peace of mind because of that.”

▸ upside down - set it off
this song is like whatever the reverse of personification is for a silly little guy. it’s a little dumb and dorky but the stupidly upbeat protagonist never fails to make me smile because it’s so hilariously optimistic. i know a lot of set it off fans (at least the ones i know irl) prefer their heavier albums (and i’m really happy with the singles they’ve been putting out since they got away from that label) but upside down always feels to me like the band themself wanted to experiment more with making lighter music, rather than them being pushed that direction by the label (which i feel happened somewhat with elsewhere)
▸ wah wah world - giga and mitchie m - performed by hatsune miku, minori hanasato, and azusawa kohane
this song is also very silly and fun. it perfectly fits minori and kohane to me. two cute girls with a lot of determination and a bit of an “edgy” side! it’s also way better than sekai (the song). sorry but it’s true idk how it happened

adskahdsjalhskadhsksl this was way harder than it should have been so it took me a while to get to it…
1.) i suppose to start, i have always been happy with my body. i don’t experience much of anything in the way of dysphoria (aside from the constant hairstyle debate) and i have enough natural athleticism that i can move my body weight if need be (i.e. pulling myself up onto/over something) which for whatever reason is something i’ve always been proud of. my ability to scale a mid-sized wall.
2.) i also like, or at least appreciate that i absorb and retain information quite well. while my actual work ethic may not be great, i am able to do pretty well in academics just from info sticking with me pretty well. i think i learn stuff well in general.
3.) i have been pretty happy with my art lately, or at least i’ve felt a lot more like it’s worthy of been posted and seen by others. i have so many ideas, and i want to draw more often.
4.) i guess i like that i can take charge and overcome my shyness/social anxiety when someone else doesn’t want to. i guess the older sibling instinct outweighs the people are scary instinct. pretty sure the people in my group for the freshman seminar presentation loved me because i would—for whatever reason—just run my mouth until whoever came to see our project left.
5.) i guess it’s not really about me, but i’m really glad that i’ve been able to have so many great people around me. sure, my little brother is going thru his teenage asshole years, but we have each other’s backs when we’re out. not to mention all my close friends have been such wonderfully kind, talented, and inspiring people and we’ve stuck together with minimal drama for a while. for that i’m certainly grateful.

i mean i can't not say xenoblade 1. adam howden opening monologue? the crazy zoom out through the whole world? the battle of sword valley showing you both the power and danger of both the mechon and the monado? the fact that there are actually tiny little telethia flying around the bionis's head but you don't even know what you're looking at until you replay? the way they actually manage to make it feel like these are colossal titans and their swords and bodies are so massive it takes tremendous effort to move them, yet they are locked in an actually intense and heated battle? hello? hello??
probably Beyond The Way! it’s been a consistent fav of my since it came out and i do love that it fits all of vbs’s growth!
iirc ÅMARA was also technically commissioned for the game and that is one of my favourite songs like. ever. i think it was my top played song last year and currently my phone wallpapers are made from the MV!

my very first favourite character was saki! she was also my first 4☆!
i think this was before i really got to know the whole cast tho, so it would probably be more accurate to say kanade was my first fav. i still hold a lot of affection for her but she’s been getting neglected in favour of vbs on my account nowadays :(
and i think my favourite unit at the start was between leo/need and nightcord. vivid bad squad is easily my favourite unit now, tho i do still like nightcord a lot. they’re the two units i try to keep up to date on the stories of!
i think it’s pretty easy to say akito is my fav now, but kohane is right behind him! (and sometimes i think she kinda surpasses him, he just gets special treatment bc of akito-daily and the fact he looooves to come home) an and kanade are also very close behind them, and there’s like 5 more right behind them. i have a lot of love for like half the cast they’re all so good
