So, Fold stuff, tearrors and Mother's theory time.
First, we've had now a lot of evidence towards the fact that people/thoughts influence tearror effect (Saskia wanting to do more becoming two, Fiona wanting to be supported ending with literally a man supporting her physically all the time, Ogden loving to fly and ended up floating). I suppose that's also why they're deadly, a lot of people must think they are going to die when there is a tearror.
The rest of the stuff has some early access spoilers for Unend S1E13, read at your own risk :p
We know the Mothers are resistant to Fold Tearror, as seen in Unend S1E13, Mother Artifice survived a part of the Tearror that clearly destroyed the rest of the crew. However they are not completely immune, as they say they cannot go back to the control room as it will "devour any living thing".
Finally, when black scars are being treated to become opalescent, be it by Mothers or by Lark, it is always described as an emptiness, a deadness, a void.
So, I suppose the Fold and Tearrors feed on something only the living have (thoughts? emotions? light in a metaphorical sense?), and the Mother "empty" or create a "void" that remove everything it could feed on when they heal it. In addition, here the fold is not nothing, it's everything/all the possibilities, the black represent all possible colors and it eats the light, while afterwards it is not white but rather "light does not interact with it", it is something dead, nothingness.
So living beings have thoughts/emotions that tearror need, and Mother since they went through realization have a more profound control on it, making them resistant to Tearrors and able to create this void. They still have a mind and body though, so they are not completely immune.
My main problem with this is objects. Because during the MIDST tearror, all buildings got changed, objects got impacted. But here in Unend S1E13 the boccular man was fine? As were the disk in control room to operate the foldlight? So is it that only object that bear sentimental value to living being are being affected, which would explain why a home would be changed but not a foldight-operating disk? But then Boccular man has sentimental value, right? WTF?

-- For one, and this is pretty random, but Narrator Sarah almost always voices Sherman, except in the first few episodes where he appears.
-- Tzila says to Lark that she "doesn't exactly have a Mom," but she very notably did NOT say "I don't have a Mom" or "my Mom is dead." She speaks with a lot of hesitation, as if explaining this is difficult and fraught. We don't know much about the acceptance of non-hetero sexualities in the world of Midst, but her difficulty is... notable.
-- When Hieronymous sees Tzila as a teenager, he says, "She looks like Sherman," and Saskia replies, "but she's got your nose." This implies that there is some actual genetic mingling going on. The world of Midst is weird, so maybe there's a way for this to happen -- but in the logic of this Cosmos, it's easier to imagine a tearror gender-flipping Sherman after Tzila was born. If Hieronymous isn't bi, then it would explain why they "went their seperate ways."
