I like pop-punk but I 100% agree with you. Plus I think because of all that it's one of the most ill defined genres out there? Like anything vaguely whiny and aimed at teens is labeled pop-punk in my experience.

Also I feel like the thing that resonates with a lot of people who love pop-punk is, itâs often the first kind of pop music they hear that actually talks about emotions, and like, real feelings like the ones human people actually have?? Unlike a lot of other pop which is just about the veneer of emotionality, or even the numbing of negative feelings. So in that way i could see it as a very affirming thing for someone who's maybe never related to music before at an emotional level...
I honestly think iâd be fine with it if it didnât use the words pop and punk, if it had itâs own definitions, and I guess âsceneâ is one but even that is so vague! What scene does that mean? is there a lexicon of pop-punk sub-genres Iâm not aware of? Maybe I should just learn more about it idk :\
