âAll right, I know everyone ... â Â He swallowed and closed his eyes for a moment. Â âI know everyone is excited for the end of the year, but you still have my final exam to contend with.â
The whole class gave a collective groan. Â Harvey Specter was everyoneâs favorite âLegal Professionâ professor at Harvard Law; he was laidback, inventive and always got the class involved, but his tests were known to be the most brutal.
âSome of you, you know who you are,â Harvey continued, âhave chosen the option for the five thousand word essay on a pre-approved topic. Â Donât think that I will be easy on you.â
The class chuckled a bit. Â âAre we going to do a review?â a student called from the back of the class.
âI will offer extended office hours for the next week,â Harvey replied. Â âIf any of you have any questions about things you are uncertain about. Â And on that note, Iâm going to let you all out of here. Â Go, cram for all your other finals.â
The class filed out, looking forward to a few extra minutes to breathe and gather themselves for the rest of their classes.
âProfessor?â
Harvey looked up and saw Mike Ross, his most promising student, standing by his desk
The annual Hale reunion in Beacon Hills was always the best and worst thing about the holidays for Derek. He, as alpha of his pack, would have to parade his betas around in front of his family like cattle to show off how well he was able to bring his pack together.
It wasnât like he was singled out, the rest of the family did it as well. It had always been a tradition for them ever since the Hale line had started. Since the entirety of them were alphas, they dispersed around the globe and built packs. Derek didnât like that idea either. He had never wanted to be an alpha, he had wanted to be a beta like his dad had been. He even cried when he presented as alpha on his tenth birthday and his mom had to chase him down in the preserve for four hours.
It was even worse now that the only remaining Hales were him, his two sisters, and his uncle. Since Laura had taken over as matriarch of the family after the fire, she had insisted that they all stay fairly local. Cora had gone to New Mexico to start her pack spanning it out to Arizona and a little into Mexico, Laura had decided on Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho, Peter, as the eldest, got to stay in Beacon Hills and had his pack in California, Utah, and Nevada. That left Derek with Washington, Oregon, and Montana. His base of operations was on a huge horse ranch in the midst of the Montana wilderness. He enjoyed it there, lots of room to be alone, plenty of room to run during the moons. It was Derekâs paradise.
âDerek, itâs almost time to leave or weâll be late.â Boyd, Derekâs first beta, told him as he walked into the barn.
Derek glanced up at him then back down to the hoof of the horse he was shoeing. âWhen Iâm done with this Iâll be right there. Is the car packed?â He asked, hammering in the last nail.
Boyd rolled his eyes. âYeah Isaac had it packed before sunrise.â He pointed out.
Derek sighed. He really did feel bad for his betas. They didnât get to go outside of the ranch much and Isaac was the most antsy of them. He had grown up in Seattle so he was used to big city life, even if he hadnât been able to get out much due to his abusive father. Derekâs jaw clenched a little at the memory before letting a long breath out through his nose. âPut Miranda up for me so I can go change?â He asked.
Boyd nodded. âYou got it.â He said, grabbing the horseâs lead and started leading her back to her stable.
An hour later Derek and his three betas were on the road towards Beacon Hills.
Isaac leaned forward from the back seat to look between Derek and Erica. âI canât wait to meet your family and their packs.â He said with a smile.
Derek managed a small smile back at him. He didnât know where Isaacâs cheeriness came from. He guessed now that he could handle himself and he didnât have to worry about his asshole father, he could relax. âTheyâre going to love you. Cora and Laura fawn over every new beta, so youâll probably end up with a lot of gifts.â He told him, running his hand over his head affectionately.
Erica smirked. âUnless they take a liking to you and want to steal you for their own pack.â
Isaac looked alarmed while Derek glared. âThey wonât do that.â He told her, flashing his eyes at her. âApologize.â
She whined a little in her throat and sat back in her seat. âSorry, Isaac.â She muttered.
Isaac looked at Derek. âCan they do that?â He asked, sitting back in his own seat.
Derek sighed. âThey can, but they have to have a damn good reason. And theyâd have to challenge me for my beta and win.â He explained. âUnless they thought that you were being mistreated, then they could appeal to the matriarch and sheâd make the decision.â
âAnd in Lauraâs case, since sheâs the matriarch, she could just take you and Derek wouldnât have a chance.â Boyd interjected helpfully.
Isaac still looked worried.
âThey wonât take you, Isaac.â Derek assured him.
He nodded and leaned further back into his seat. âI hope they donât.â He murmured.
Derek awoke as Boyd pulled up in front of the hotel that they were staying at while in town. He looked back to see Erica and Isaac literally snuggled together in the back seat and snorted, climbing out to go and check them in. Heâd let Boyd disentangle his girlfriend from their newest pack member.
He went over to the counter and gave his name, waiting while the desk agent finished the paperwork. He was gazing out at the few people milling about in the late evening and caught the scent of someone who had him fighting for control of himself. He practically snatched the keys from the girl behind the counter and stalked off to find the source of the scent.
He found it in the form of a lanky teenager staring blearily at the vending machine. He watched him for a few moments, staring at his hands as he ran one of them absently through his short hair. His eyes flicked down to the little sliver of skin that showed under the hem of his shirt when he stretched his arms over his head and yawned.
âYou sound like you should be sleeping rather than staring at a vending machine.â Derek told him, walking over. He smiled a little when the kid jumped and looked at him.
âYeah well, when youâre told to run down and grab something for yourâboss, you do it.â He told him, a blush rising up his cheeks.
Derek raised an eyebrow. âBoss, right.â He said, taking a breath. He could smell an alpha on him, but not enough for him to figure out who it was. It made him smile internally just a little because such a weak alpha smell on him meant that he didnât have strong ties to his alpha. âYouâd be better off getting chocolate.â He told him. âBosses like chocolate when theyâre feeling restless.â He commented.
The kid stared at him for a moment, taking in an obvious breath before flashing his yellow eyes at him and bowing his head a little. âThank you.â He muttered.
Derek reached out and touched the top of the kidâs head like he would with his betas. âNo problem.â He told him, pulling his hand back. âMy name is Derek.â He said, shoving his hands into his jeans before he did something stupid like try to scent mark the kid. More so than he had already done. He would berate himself for that later because he knew better than to try to scent another alphaâs beta, no matter how weak the ties were.
âStiles.â The kid said, smiling at him. He pressed a couple of buttons on the machine and held out a candy bar to him. âAs a thank you for the advice.â He explained.
Derek took the candy and stepped closer to the kid. He didnât get too close and scare him, but close enough that he could slip the spare key to his room into the kidâs pocket. âYouâre welcome.â He told him, brushing past to head back into the lobby.
âItâs about time.â Boyd told him with a frown. âWeâve been looking for you.â
Derek took his bag from Boyd and passed out their keys. âI had to take care of something.â He told them, heading for the elevator.
Derek had just gotten out of the shower and was running the towel through his hair when he heard a key in the lock of his room. He pulled on some jeans while the door opened and he was hit with the scent of Stiles again. âYou showed up.â He stated, dropping the towel on the floor.
Stiles rubbed the back of his neck. âYeah. I⌠I donât know why I did, but yeah. Iâm here.â He told him, shuffling his feet. âWhy did you give me a key? You know Iâm someone elseâs beta.â
He shrugged. âYour tie isnât strong and you smell good.â He responded bluntly, fishing through his bag for one of his shirts.
Stiles watched Derek curiously. âYou smell good too. Like⌠Like a fireplace and cinnamon.â He said, making himself comfortable on the bed.
Derek abandoned his search for additional clothing and joined Stiles on the bed almost immediately. The wolf in him took over for the moment, drawing him to the guy on the bed. âYou know why I wanted you here, donât you?â He asked, holding himself away from Stiles by several inches.
âI think that I can guess.â Stiles replied, his eyes bleeding into yellow as he fought for control.
Derek leaned in and nuzzling Stilesâs neck. âYou smell like sâmores and fresh cut grass.â He told him, his lips brushing against his skin. He smiled in satisfaction when Stiles shivered. âYour alpha wonât be happy if I scent you.â He told him.
âI donât care. I hate my alpha.â Stiles admitted, running his fingers through Derekâs still damp hair. âIf I could, Iâd challenge him for my freedom from his pack.â He said, shivering again when Derek moved to behind his ear.
Derek stopped and leaned back to look at him. âYou hate your alpha?â He questioned, bewildered.
âYeah, I do. Heâs a manipulative asshole and I wish heâd just take a long walk off of a short cliff.â He explained.
Derek raised a brow. âWhy would you ask to be part of his pack if you hated him?â
Stiles sighed and climbed off of the bed, a move that had Derekâs wolf howling in outrage.
These feelings were new to Derek. He knew what they were and the satisfaction of knowing that his mate was a wolf and not a human pleased him greatly. Heâd just have to appeal to the boyâs alpha, or challenge him if it came to that, and itâd be over. He could take his mate back to Montana when this reunion was all over and it would be fine.
âI didnât get a choice in the matter.â He admitted, looking like he was going to be sick at divulging this to a stranger. Stiles knew that what his wolf was feeling for this new alpha wasnât normal. He never felt anything like this with his alpha or his pack mates. Hell, he couldnât even tell you what their scents were made up of. âI was bitten the same night my best friend was bitten and we had to follow the bastard or heâd rip the throats out of our parents.â He said, frowning. âI hate him but Iâm not strong enough to face him.â
A low, angry growl started to fill the room, surprising them both. It surprised Derek the most when he realized that the sound was coming from him.
âDonât worry, Stiles.â He found himself saying. âIf you didnât have a say in this, Iâll appeal to his matriarch. No alpha is to change someone without their consent.â He told him, standing. âYouâll have your freedom.â He promised.
Stilesâs smile at that promise lit up the room. He bared his neck to Derek in a thank you.
Derek leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to his pulse rather than scent him like the gesture indicated he would. âYou wonât have to deal with him much longer.â
Derek rolled out of bed at an urgent knocking at his door. He groused the entire walk there and pulled the door open. âWhat?â He asked.
Erica was standing there smirking knowingly at him. âI was told to come and get you. Weâve got to go down to the conference room soon. Laura sent me for you.â She explained.
He huffed and headed back into the room, allowing her entrance behind him.
âIt smells like sex and blood in here.â She said, eyeing the bed. âAnd I can see why, you actually slept in that?â She asked him, extending a claw from her index finger to pick up a shred of blood-soaked sheet.
He rolled his eyes. âNo, I slept on the sofa.â He told her, pointing to the sheet and the pillow on the small sofa near the window. âIt wasnât a planned event.â He added, pulling a pair of jeans from his bag.
She grinned. âSo you had this kind of crazy sex with a stranger? Good for you Der. I was wondering if you were ever going to get some or just explode one day.â She told him, pulling the remainder of the sheets off the bed while Derek disappeared into the bathroom.
âNot a stranger.â He said as he turned on the water. With a wolfâs hearing, she could understand him fine.
She paused in the midst of pulling pieces of clothes from underneath the bed. She stood and looked at the doorway leading into the bathroom. Those three words said more to her than if Derek had told her the entire story. She extended her index finger as she thought. Not pack, check. She extended her middle finger. Able to handle claws and bloodletting, check. She extended her ring finger. Left a bruise on a wolfâs neck, check. Her jaw dropped. âHoly fuck, Derek! You found your mate?!â She shrieked, walking into the bathroom.
He glared at her. âBe quiet Erica, I donât know where he is and he doesnât know that.â He said, climbing into the shower at last.
âWho is he?!â She asked, pulling herself onto the counter.
He shook his head. âHeâs a beta in another pack. After the reunion he and I are going to appeal to his alphaâs matriarch.â He told her, lathering up his hair with shampoo.
She squealed happily. âSo youâre going to bring him home with us? Weâre going to get another pack member?â
Derekâs heart skipped a beat at the thought and a smile crept across his face. âIf everything goes as planned, yes. Heâs going to come home with us.â
Derek and his three betas walked through the door of conference hall B, the chatter of the three packs inside coming to a halt. Derek glanced around at the thirty odd people in the room and sighed. His was still the smallest pack out of the four of them, but he had always valued quality over quantity.
He and the betas walked straight for Laura who was seated at a table on the stage talking with Cora. âLaura.â He said, baring his neck to her.
She smiled and rubbed her nose against him. âDerek.â She said, pulling him into a hug.
He stepped back with a smile of his own. He missed his family more than heâd ever admit to. âYou remember my betas Boyd and Erica.â He said, gesturing to them.Â
They each stepped forward and bared their throats to her. She patted their heads in affection.
âI do. Itâs a pleasure to see you again.â She told them.
âAnd this is my newest beta, Isaac.â He said, gesturing for Isaac to step forward.
He did and bared his throat to her.
She patted his head. âNo need to be worried, Isaac. Youâre safe here.â She assured him.
Isaac let out an audible sigh of relief. âThank you, alpha of my alpha.â He said politely to her, letting loose with his puppy dog smile.
Derek could see the moment when Laura fell in love with him and he smiled. Derek breathed a sigh of relief as his betas went off to mingle with the others. That was until Peter walked up to him with a grin on his face. âDerek.â
Derek plastered on a fake smile. âPeter. Nice to see you again.â
âIt is, I know.â He said with a smirk, gesturing over his shoulder. âI want to introduce you to my new betas.â He told him.
Derek sighed and waited for them to join them. Nine times out of ten, Peter had gorgeous women as his betas. He didnât really choose based on what they would bring to his pack. He typically let his dick decide. Thatâs why he was taken by surprise when he caught the scent of sâmores and fresh cut grass undercut with his firewood and cinnamon.
âThese are my two betas Scott and Stiles.â He told him, the glint in his eye daring Derek to stake a claim on his beta. Peter knew Derekâs scent well enough to be able to pull it from Stilesâs skin. And as a powerful alpha heâd be able to force Stiles to tell him whatever he wanted to know.Â
Derek took a breath and calmed himself. âNice to meet you.â He told them waiting for the polite baring of their throats to him.
Stiles stared at his feet and made no attempt to show respect to the alpha in front of him. Scott looked straight at him and didnât attempt it either.
Peter smiled wickedly. âMy betas are so well trained.â He said softly, only loud enough for the four of them to hear. âEven the strong willed ones break if you find the weakness.â He said, pulling Stiles to him and nipping affectionately at the obvious bruise that Derek had left on his neck. âThis one has been particularly hard to break but Iâve finally found something that he can respond to.â He looked at Stiles. âIsnât that right, Bonded?â
Derekâs eyes flamed to life, his fangs itching at his gums. Peter couldnât Bond himself to someone. It was unfair. And Stiles⌠Stiles was HIS and heâd be damned if heâd let a legal binding happen while he was there.
âThatâs right, Alpha.â Stiles said, looking up at Derek with glowing green eyes. âBeing bound to you in the greatest thing to ever happen to me.â He said, turning to accept the kiss that Peter placed on his lips.
Derekâs heart stopped when he saw the green of his mateâs eyes. They had bound to one another already. He stared at them for a long moment before he found his voice. âI⌠Iâm happy for you.â He lied, walking towards the door.
Laura found him sitting on the side of the pool, staring into the water. âDerek, whatâs wrong?â She asked, sitting next to him.
âNothing.â He muttered.
âThe pools of blood next to you beg to differ.â She pointed out. âYour eyes are still glowing.â
He closed his eyes and fought for control, going back to the scent of he and Stiles together, the amber color of his eyes, the bruise on his neck that marked him as his mate. He opened his eyes again to look at her.
âNow do you want to talk about it?â She asked.
He scowled. âYou let him bond to his beta.â He muttered.
She looked surprised. âWell yes, he asked, the beta agreed to it, the beta had a mate bruise⌠It was all normal.â
Derek dug his claws into his palm again. âHis name is Stiles and Peter isnât his mate.â He told her coldly.
âDerek, whatâs the matter. I thought youâd be happy that Peter mated.â
Derek growled. âHe bonded to my mate!â He shouted. âStilesâs eyes were green, Laura. The mating isnât taking. Peter is doing this to hurt me. He still blames me for the fire.â He told her. âHe mated Stiles and heâs not his mate, he gave him the bite without his consent!â
âWait, hold on a second Derek. Your mate?â She asked him.
He pulled up his shirt to show the bruise that Stiles had left on his side.
âOh my God, Derek. You found your mate!â She said with a smile right before it was wiped from her face. âPeter bit him without his consent?â She asked, getting back to alpha business.
He nodded. âAnd his friend. No telling how many of his other betas too.â He said.
She sat silently while she digested this information. âSo⌠Ask me.â She told him.
He looked up and raised a brow. âAsk you what, Laura?â
She rolled her eyes. âFormally ask for the right to remove the beta from his alpha.â
Derek stared at her with his jaw agape. âLaura⌠My alpha⌠Will you grant me the right to remove the beta Stiles who was bitten without consent by alpha Peter under your rule?â
âAndâŚ?â She prompted.
He thought for a moment about what she was trying to get from him. âAnd the beta Scott for the same reasons.â
âAnd?â
He thought for another moment and then smiled. âAnd for the right to Bond to my mate under the witness of the other alphas under your rule.â
She grinned and kissed his cheek. âCome on, Iâll give you my answer inside.â She told him, walking back inside.
Laura stood on the stage, clearing her throat. âI have an announcement to make.â She announced to the room at large. âAlpha Derek Hale has petitioned to remove the betas Stiles and Scott from the pack of alpha Peter Hale rendering the Bonding between alpha and beta void.â She said, looking directly at Peter. âThe reason is that the betas were bitten without consent.â She announced. âI have agreed to alpha Derekâs request effective immediately.â
Peter growled and flashed his eyes. âI petition to challenge for my betas.â
âRequest denied.â Laura said, flashing his eyes back at him.
Derek walked over and took Stilesâs hand, nuzzling the bruise on his neck.
âFurthermore.â Laura said loudly, pulling Derek from his indulgence. âAlpha Derek Hale has requested to Bond his mate in front of all witnesses here.â She said, smiling at the excited squeal that Cora let out before she reined herself in. âTo which I have agreed.â
Derek smiled at her, looking away to watch Stilesâs expression. He felt his heart flutter and the pure joy his mate had on his face.
âYour mate, huh?â He asked, squeezing Derekâs hand. âWould have been handy to know last night.â
Derek kissed him. âI didnât want to scare you.â
Stiles laughed. âGreat job.â
Derek wrapped his arms around him. âI promise to make it up to you.â
-Two Years Later-
âDerek! Come inside!â Stiles shouted from the porch of the house.
Derek smiled and let Isaac take over helping Boyd brand the calves they had just gotten.
âGo on, mama wolf is calling.â Boyd teased as Derek headed towards the house.
He hopped onto the porch, skipping the stairs entirely and drew Stiles into his arms. âYou called for me?â He asked, placing a kiss to his mateâs lips.
He nodded with a smile. âYes I did, show off. Dad and Melissa should be here soon and you promised that youâd move the furniture for me.â Stiles told him.
Derek put his hand on Stilesâs swollen belly, rubbing his thumbs against it gently when he felt a kick. âRight, I did promise that.â
âWell go on, alpha.â Stiles said, flashing his eyes at him. âTheyâre coming in to help with Laura while we go into the hospital and itâs the least we can do to let them have a place to sleep.â
Derek rolled his eyes good naturedly at him. âOr they could just live in the house downtown that I bought for them.â He said over his shoulder, grinning when he heard Stiles squawk in surprise at the news. âI love you too, Stiles!â
Based off of this photo and post by @teamfreewill- which reads: ok but imagine Scottâs having a party at his house and Derek randomly decides to show up in his wolf form. some people freak out, some just completely ignore it thinking itâs just Scottâs weird ass dog. Stiles immediately knows who it is and just collapses in the middle of the floor, patting and rubbing at Derekâs fur.
Thereâs a dude just sitting on the floor, petting the giant dog that had just walked in. The majority of the crowd of party-goers had made a wide path for the dog to pass through, as that thing was monstrously sized, though skinny with short fur, and admittedly a tad scary looking. The guy hadnât shied away, though. In fact, heâd stopped mid-conversation to plop down onto the hard floor, a wide and joyful grin on his face, and pull the dog into a hug.
Kevin doesnât like to judge. Honest. Heâs one of the most accepting souls on the planet, and he would never dislike anyone for how they look or the things they do that seem weird to him, because he doesnât know peopleâs lives! So it wouldnât be cool for someone to judge him just because he bought adult light-up sneakers (which are fucking awesome), so he wonât judge people for their quirks either.Â
Itâs just. Kevin had seen this dude before. Heâd had a couple classes with him over the four semesters heâd been at college, so they probably had similar majors. His name he couldnât quite recall, something different. But he came off to Kevin as someone who was very smart and sociable, stopping after class to speak to the professor, chatting and laughing with friends and fellow students. He was one of those people that others could gravitate towards, and he would be accepting of your comment or joke no matter who you were. Kevin had liked him, as much as he could like any fellow classmate whose name escaped him.Â
He never pegged the guy for being socially anxious, though. He was the type of person who would thrive at a party like this, where the music was thumping; it wasnât too wind and crazy, but there was enough people and things going on that he could be occupied the entire night. Kevin, on the other hand, wasnât the biggest fan of parties. He could have done without this one. But Scott, his lab partner, had invited him, and it had seemed rude to say no to the guy. Heâd looked so earnest and excited to be throwing his first college party. So Kevin had said yes, knowing he could at least last an hour or two before turning in for the night.Â
It honestly should be him sitting on the laminate wooden floor smothering the large, black-furred dog in hugs. But it was not.Â
âI didnât think youâd come out and join us, sourwolf!â the guy said to the dog, fingers going straight behind the ears and scratching there. A red solo cup was dropped between his crossed legs, and the dog leaned down to sniff it.
The dog sneezed into the cup, nose scrunched up in distaste, and the guy groaned, âDude! Now I have to get another one!â
The dog woofed, a low, deep noise, and the guy rolled his eyes, ministrations never ceasing. So he must not have been that annoyed.Â
âThat was only my second cup. I know how to control myself.â The dog stared at the man, unmoving, for a few seconds. The low lighting of the room made it a little difficult to see, but it almost looked like the dog was unimpressed by the man. âNow,â the guy added with a sigh. âI know how to control myself now.âÂ
The dog huffed before nuzzling its nose under the guyâs chin, and the man became all-smiles once again, wrapping his arms around the large dogâs neck and squeezing it in a hug.Â
âAw, Derek came out of his hiding spot!â
Kevin whipped around to see Scott saddling up next to him. The man had a grin on his face, hair slightly matted down with sweat, most likely from all the dancing Kevin had seen him doing earlier. He also had a red solo cup in his hand, and he used it to gesture when he spoke.Â
âIs Derek...the dog?â Kevin guessed, knowing that the guyâs name was not normal enough to be âDerekâ, so it couldnât be him.
The dog looked over at him then, most likely recognizing his name, though the way the tufts of gray fur over his eyes that mirrored eyebrows lowered, it looked like he was getting glared at. The dog had piercing eyes, Kevin realized. They reflected the blue lights of the disco ball hung from the ceiling for a second, sending a shiver down Kevinâs spine.Â
Scott beside him started laughing. The guy next to Derek stole the dogâs attention once again, trailing his dull nails down Derekâs flank, murmuring something softly to the dog that Kevin could not hear. Derek turned back to the guy with another huff, but preened, leaning into the petting. They guy landed a kiss on Derekâs nose, and Derek licked at his face in retaliation.
âYes,â Scott finally choked out between laughs. âThe dog is Derek. With Stiles.â
Thatâs the name! Stiles!
âIs Derek yours?â Kevin asked, watching as Derek leaned his giant weight onto Stiles, and Stiles caught him in his lap, soiled beer cup crushed beneath his heavy weight.Â
For some reason, that had Scott laughing again. âNah,â he eventually said, watching the scene with fondness on his face. âNah, heâs mostly Stilesâ.â

*****
To say that Mike was ready to become father while he was still in college was like claiming that World War I had been some minor misunderstanding.
âW-W-What?â was the only word that was able to make its way out of his mouth as he gaped at the girl standing in his shitty dorm room. She looked out of place, amidst the dozens of askew movie posters on the wall, the many books that littered every surface of the room and the messy bed on which he had to sit down after he had finally understood what she was telling him.
âI said that I´m pregnant,â the girl repeated. Juliette was her name. She and Mike had met on one of the many parties that were part of college life a few weeks ago. There had been something between them â a connection, a spark or simply lust â and after vast quantities of alcohol and not so subtle gazes between them, they had landed in one of the empty bedrooms.
Mike looked at Juliette. In movies with situations such as theirs there were always tears involved, but Juliette looked as composed as ever. Her blonde hair was done in a loose braid that hung over her shoulder, her green eyes werenât teary and her pale skin wasnât red and blotchy from crying constantly. She didnât look like a barely twenty-year-old who just had to tell a former one-night stand that he was the father of her baby.
âI really donât know what to say,â Mike stammered after the silence between them became too tense to bear. He really didnât. Mike wasnât stupid â far from it actually â but he never thought that one day he would be in a situation that he had always assumed only occurred in bad teen romances. Intellectually he had been aware that such things could and did happen, but knowing something and actually experiencing it were two completely different pair of shoes.
