If Iâve made any errors, then please let me know and Iâll fix it asap!
Derek leaned against the kitchen counter, his hands curled tightly around a mug of coffee that had long gone cold. The rhythmic hum of the refrigerator was the only sound, punctuated by the occasional pop of the house settling. His eyes drifted to the blinking router in the corner, its tiny lights pulsing like a taunt. He scowled. The damn thing had been acting up for weeks, cutting out at the worst times, refusing to stay fixed no matter how many times he reset it. Eli would've had it sorted out in no time, but Eli wasn't here anymore. The distance between them felt larger than the miles separating their homes.
Derek shifted his weight, the tiles cool under his bare feet. He glanced at the stack of books on the dining tableâEli's old fantasy novels he'd promised to read. One lay open, a dog-eared page halfway through, but the words had stopped making sense hours ago. He rubbed the back of his neck, trying to dispel the oppressive silence that seemed to thicken the air.
I've been wanting to do my own Neckz 'n' Throats AU, so I was so excited to get the opportunity to try it out. I hope you enjoy it!
Happy Holidays! <3

Behind the Cover
Derek sat hunched at his desk, a mug of coffee growing cold beside his laptop. The cursor blinked unendingly, mocking him with the lack of words. He sighed, rubbing a hand across his face. Some days, the words flowed effortlessly.
Today wasn't one of those days.
Pushing his chair back, he stretched, feeling the satisfying crack of his spine as he stood. Grabbing his mug, he walked across the open loft to the kitchen. The sound of the microwave echoed across the quiet loft. The only other sounds were the faint hum of the refrigerator and the occasional creak of old pipes. The quiet usually helped him focus, but today it only seemed to amplify his writer's block.
Hope you like it, Alaidiem! I really got inspired to create a kinda fairy tale AU and honestly I kinda want to write more of it. Have a great Holiday season and a fantastic 2025!

Winter Winds, Autumn Songs
âHis Royal Highness, Alpha Fox and Prince MieczysĹaw Stilinski of the Autumn Kingdom!â
Stiles frowned and turned to his bodyguard and best friend, Scott McCall. âI thought we agreed I was to be introduced as Stiles.â
Scott looked apologetic. âPrince Derek insisted it would be improper and informal to announce a visiting Prince with a nickname.â
Stiles let out an annoyed breath. Of course it had to be Derek behind even this one small annoyance.
He walked down the ice stairs into a large ballroom also made entirely of translucent ice. The transparent structure was magically built every winter, and watching it melt marked the beginning of spring. Everyone in attendance was wearing white, as was customary. Stilesâ own attire was a delicately embroidered white suit, but he made sure to wear a bright red fur cape to properly represent his homeland. He was even wearing one of his motherâs crowns, an intricate piece made of fire rubies and white gold that contrasted beautifully with Stilesâ dark chestnut hair.

Hi!!! This was initially supposed to be a wee little thing for you. Something inspired by a really gorgeous Moulin Rouge art piece I recently saw. My muse kind of leaned into those vibes and decided to spit out a Beast of a fic instead.
Since you asked for soulmates, the Red String of Fate, angst with a happy ending, fluff and Pack Feels, that's what I ran with. I hope you're cool with what I have so far (since the build up will take us to Part 2, which will be posted up just after Christmas). Hang tight, and you'll get to punch and then hug our two favorite idiots afterward.
*****
Red is Pretty (But So Is Blue)
This is a story about love.
My soulmate didnât know
We were destined to be together.
Then again, neither did I.
*
Stiles is a romantic. He always has been. Love is what runs through his very veins. Or at least the pure idea of it does.
Heâd pined for Lydia Martin until she finally gave him the time of day. That was when they both realized they work so much better as friends.
Caitlin will always be the exception, as someone Stiles knew since they were in diapers. What could have beenâwell, he tries not to dwell on that too much after things tragically ended.
Happy Holidays to my Sterek Secret Santa giftee, theydraggedmein. I havenât written Sterek in a long while, so it was hard to get back into it. But I read your Likes List, and once I started writing I couldnât stop. Iâll upload the story on AO3 after the Big Reveal.
Thank you and happy holidays!
Summary:
Derek asks Stiles to pretend to be his boyfriend for his sisterâs wedding.
It doesnât go as Derek expected. It turns out better.
*****
Letâs Play Pretend (For A Little While)
âI need you to pretend to be my boyfriend for my sisterâs wedding.â
Stiles blinked at Derek. âUh, a good seven-sixteen in the morning to you, Der.â
Derek sighed, rubbing his face underneath his glasses. âIâm sorry to bother you so early, Stiles, but I need help.â
âWith a boyfriend situation, it sounds like.â Stiles yawned. It was cute. He was cute even with the bedhead and the struggle beard and the Batman pajamas. âCome on in. You can tell me whatâs going on over coffee.â
âYou donât drink coffee. You drink sugar,â Derek said, to which Stiles snorted. Theyâd been having this argument for the better part of a year now.
Derek followed after him and sat down on his usual seat in Stilesâ tiny dining roomâslashâkitchen as Stiles busied himself with making a cup of (sugar) coffee.
Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski were coâteachers at the local high school, with Derek teaching Literature and Stiles taking over Performing Arts last year to replace their retiring music teacher. At first Derek thought he and Stiles were never going to get along. They were total opposites with Derek being more formal and quietâstuffy, was the word often used on himâand being older at thirty-one years old, while Stiles was only twenty-five, young and cool and quite popular with his graphic shirts, his ripped jeans, his left sleeve tattoo, his motorcycle, and the bevy of instruments he touted around. So aside from cursory greetings, Derek had tried vainly to stay away, sure that Stiles would do the same. In the end, and with Stilesâ persistence, the two of them ended up becoming very close friends after they realized that they had so much in common, mainly being nerdy losers deep inside.
âOkay, soâŚâ Stiles sat down with his sugary cup of death. He slid a regular, perfectly normal cup of coffee towards Derek. âGive me the deets.â
Derek sighed, rubbing his cup. He was nervous and embarrassed, but he needed help.Â
âMy oldest sister, Valerie, is getting married in two weeks and I need a date.â
Stiles was confused. âNo offense, but why do you have to bring a boyfriend? Why not just a friend?â
Derek reached into his pocket for his phone. He showed Stiles a photo. It was Derek in college with his arm around a young woman who looked identical to him, with dark hair, piercing dark eyes and the same chin. They were at a college game and were beaming at the camera.Â
âYouâre so young here, dude!â Stiles cooed.
Another swipe. It was Derek in high school. He and the girl were at the beach, pink-cheeked and with matching pink and purple sunglasses.
Another swipe. It was Derek in elementary. They were at a school fair and the two were eating corndogs.
Another swipe. It was Derek and the girl as toddlers wearing Halloween costumes. She was Dorothy of Oz and he was a lion.
âYou two are obviously very close,â Stiles said gently.
Derek smiled at the photos, scrolling through them. âI have a very close-knit family, but Valerie and I have always had a bond. She never pressured me about anything in my life, but sheâs always been worried about me, especially since I live so far from all of my siblings.â
He sighed. âAnd when Valerie and my mom asked if I had a plus one, I accidentally told them I was dating someone and taking them to the wedding.â
Stilesâ confusion cleared. âWhich is where the boyfriend plot comes in.â
âYeah, and IâŚâ Derek rubbed his beard, almost dislodging his glasses. It was a bit of a self-soothing habit. âI didnât know who to ask and youâre myâŚâ ridiculous, embarrassing and entirely unrequited crush, â... youâre one of my closest friends.â
Stiles took a long drink of his sugar in a cup. When he put it down, he nodded. âYou know what, sure.â
âReally?â Derek asked, surprised. He thought he had to work harder to convince him.
Stiles shrugged. âYeah, I mean, why not? Iâm not doing anything.â He smiled. âAnd you know Iâll always help you if you need me.â
This was how Derek ended up confirming Stilesâs presence to his mother a few minutes later. Stiles had gone to take a shower and get ready. It wasnât a good look for teachers to be late to school.
ââŚand book the flight and Iâll be there on Thursday evening,â he gulped, âwith Stiles.â
âStiles is the one youâre dating?â Talia asked.
Derek flushed. âYeah, uh, you know him.â
Talia sounded excited. âOh, honey, I canât believe youâre finally going out with that teacher youâve had a crush on for so long.âÂ
âShh, donât say that.â Derek whipped around, glasses almost flying off his face, but Stiles was still in his bedroom and his mother wasnât on speaker.
Talia chuckled. âI guess it would be uncool to tell your new boyfriend that youâve held a torch for him for a while.â
Derekâs face felt warm. He put his phone on speakerphone as he washed the cups he and Stiles used.
âHow long have you and Stiles been dating, hon?â Talia suddenly asked.
âUhâŚâ Derek winced. He and Stiles hadnât talked about those things yet.Â
There was a touch to his back and he turned to see Stiles, hair still damp but already dressed. He tapped the photo that was pinned to the refrigerator by a wolf magnet. It was a photo of their faculty taken last Teacherâs Day two months ago. Derek and Stiles were near the end of the crowd, beaming at the camera.
âSince Teacherâs Day a couple of weeks ago,â Derek said, to which Stiles sent him a thumbs up.
âHow come you only told me about this now?â
That was easy to answer. âBecause youâre all nosy.â
Talia clicked her tongue against her teeth. âWeâre just concerned about you.â
âNosy.â
âFine, be that way,â Talia said, a pout in her words. Derek missed her so much. âAnyway, Iâm happy for you, dear. See you soon. And Stiles too. Iâm excited to meet him. Love you.â
âThanks, Mom. Love you too.â
Derek cut the call and put away the clean cups. Stiles was leaning against the kitchen island with an amused smile on his face. He was in a Nirvana shirt, dark jeans, green socks and radiating amusement.
âYouâve mentioned your family a few times, but I guess Iâm gonna need a crash course on the complete Hale Family, eh?â
Derek sighed. âThanks, Stiles. Youâre a lifesaver. I could kiss you.â
Stiles winked. âSave that for the wedding weekend.â
Derek flushed.
Derek woke up one morning confused and absolutely disoriented, so much so that it took him a while to figure some things out.Â
First, he and Stiles had arrived at the wedding venue late last night after a three-hour flight and three more hours of travel. He had fallen asleep on the way, leaving Stiles to get him into bed and change him into some comfortable clothes. They were also sharing a bed, going by the fact that Derek could hear soft snoring and feel an arm around his waist and a warm body curled against his back. Second, his phone was ringing on the bedside table, though thankfully the volume had been set low.
Derek groaned and reached for his phone, squinting at the bright screen. It was Laura. He answered it, holding it a good few inches from his ear just in case.
âWAKE UP, DEEDEE!â
It said something about his sisterâs lungs that Stiles was jolted awake even if she was screaming through the phone and wasnât on speaker.
âWatâd hell?â Stiles murmured unintelligibly, his arm tightening around Derekâs waist and his face burrowing against Derekâs back.
Derek patted the hand on his stomach. âItâs just Laura on the phone being so loud.â
âThe fuck she screaming for?â Stiles mumbled. The sensation felt ticklish against Derekâs back.
âWhat theâyou really do have Stiles there.â
âYes, so what do you want?â
âTime to get up for breakfast.â
Derek sighed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. âOkay. Weâll be down soon.â
He cut the call before Laura could say anything else. Stiles was still clinging to him for dear life. Derek tapped the arm around his waist, trying not to flush at how warm and snuggly it all felt.
âStiles, we have to get up.â
âDo we have to?â Stiles whined, arm tightening around Derekâs waist. Derek had to resist the urge to squirm.Â
âWe have to. Or else theyâre just going to come up here and bother us.â
Stiles pulled away from Derek with a groan and they both sat up with Stiles rubbing his face vigorously. Derek resisted the urge to brush his messy hair away from his forehead.Â
âOkay, Iâm up. Just give me a sec. Your sister has insane lungs.â Stiles groaned, glaring weakly at him. âPlease tell me she wonât wake us up every single day this weekend.â
Derek chuckled. He reached out, touching Stilesâ tattooed arm. âShe did it today just to be annoying.â
âGood, because I was sleeping really well and she ruined it,â Stiles groused.
âBy the way, thanks for helping me last night.â Derek felt a bit embarrassed. âAnd I can take the sofa tonight if youââ
âDonât be silly, Der.â Stiles rolled his eyes. âThe bed is ginormous and itâs pretty obvious we fit. We can just keep sharing the bed.â He stood up, stretching his arms in the air. âAnd like I said, I slept really well last night.â
âUh, yeah, right.â Derek found it difficult to swallow. Both because he wasnât quite sure how to interpret that and because it was a bit devastating seeing Stiles in the morning light with his tattoos and messy hair and the way his shirt rode up past the edge of his sweatpants to show his tummy.
âIâll take the bathroom first.â Stiles opened the closet. âI need to psych myself up. Day One of pretending is upon us.â
Derek grimaced. That was another difficult pill to swallow, so he just nodded, glad that Stiles couldnât see his face.
The location for Valerieâs wedding was one of the Hale properties, a private sanctuary and event space in the countryside that they often used for family or company events. The place they were staying at was the main villa, which had a bevy of suites for their large family to use. It was connected to the other villas through a series of hallways and a small function hall which was set up to be the private dining room for the family and the wedding entourage.
Despite Laura waking them up at an early hour, there was already a sizable crowd in the dining area. Derek noticed it through the glass doors and he groaned deeply when he saw the people gathered inside.
âWhat is it?â Stiles peered around Derek. âThatâs a lot of Hales.â
Derek jumped when he felt Stiles lace their fingers together. He glanced down at their hands, trying not to blush. Stilesâ hand was surprisingly cool, with long slender fingers and a wide palm.
âCome on, Der. Weâre supposed to be dating. Donât tell me you forgot.â
âOh, yeah, right.â Derek fiddled with his glasses.
âItâll be fine,â Stiles said soothingly. âIâll follow your lead.â
âOr Iâll follow yours,â Derek said. They had made some plans here and there about how to pretend that they were a couple, but since their cover story was that they had only been dating recently, they had a bit of leeway when it came to acting all lovey-dovey.
Besides, Derekâs heart wouldnât be able to take pretending that much.
Derek took a deep breath, tried to beat down his panic, and then led Stiles inside the lionâs den. Stiles squeezed his hand gently as they walked in.
âDerek!â
Laura was first to beckon them over and Derek let go of Stiles so he could catch his exuberant sister as she tossed herself at him.
âIâve missed you, Deedee!â
Stiles snickered. âDeedee.â
Derek glared at him and it turned out to be the perfect opportunity for Laura to turn on Stiles. She was the only one in the family that had met Stiles before because she regularly flew up to visit Derek and had met him at school.
âStiles! Wow! Youâre here!â
âAs Derekâs plus one, yeah. Nice to meet you⌠again.â Stiles smiled, waving a hand.
âWhoâd have thought weâd meet here again of all places,â Laura said. âCome on and meet the family.â
Gathered together were Derekâs parents, Talia and Desmond, his older brother Matthew and younger brother Cameron, and Derekâs best friends, Boyd and Erica. There was a polite silence as they approached. Derek squeezed Stilesâ arm and steeled himself. Itâs showtime.
âDerek, son. Good to see you.â Desmond folded him in a big hug.Â
âHi, Dad.â Derek hugged him back. He and Matthew both got their hirsute nature from their father and their tendency to enjoy hugs.
âLooks like you brought a date,â Desmond said. They both turned to see Talia already engaged in conversation with Stiles. He lowered his voice. âSeems like a nice young man. Glad to hear you finally asked out your little crush.â
âDad!â Derek did not whine. He was too old for that. He ignored Desmondâs chuckles.
âUh, mom.â He approached her and kissed her cheek. âI didnât know you knew Stiles.â
Stiles leaned towards him, placing a warm palm on his back. âYour mom helped me find our room last night.â
Derek groaned in embarrassment, but Talia and Desmond just looked amused.
âYou looked so tired last night, darling,â Talia said, hugging Derekâs side. âGood thing Stiles was there to look after you.â
âIt was no problem at all,â Stiles actually managed to sound sincere.Â
âStiles, these are my brothers, Mattie and Cam,â Derek said.
Matthew waved, while Cameron just grunted at them over his bowl of cereal. He had sunglasses on even if they were indoors and his dark and slightly curly hair was a riotous mess atop his head.
âExcuse this one. He is not a morning person.â Matthew laughed, nudging Cameron.
âAnd these are my best friends, Boyd and Erica,â Derek added.
This honestly worried Derek a little bit, because Boyd and Erica had been his friends since childhood and they were the ones most likely to figure out Derekâs deception. But Erica only waved at them excitedly and Boyd nodded.
âDerek, Stiles, go on and eat before the others start coming in,â Desmond said.
âThank you, sir,â Stiles tugged at Derekâs arm. âCome on, Der. Letâs eat.âÂ
There was a breakfast buffet set out and Derek was tempted to join, but he could feel a very pointed glare at the back of his head and it made him hesitate.
âOrrrrâŚâ Stiles could either see it, feel it, or he had good sense. âWant me to get you something? You should catch up with your family first.â
Erica pounced on it. âWould you, please, Stiles? Thank you soooo much. Derek, come sit with me.â
âCome on, Stiles. The food here is great,â Laura said. She glanced in amusement over at Erica, barely stifling her grin, the harpy.
Stiles gave Derek a knowing look. He stroked Derekâs back and literally left him to the wolves. Derek then found himself being bodily dragged by Erica down to his seat. Matthew laughed while Cameron groaned at how the entire table was jostled. Talia and Desmond ignored all the commotion.
Erica got right up in Derekâs face. âHow could you not tell me you were finally dating that teacher youâve had a crush on for months! That is not what best friends do, Derek!â
Derek pushed her away, making her flop back against her calmer husband. âBecause I knew itâd be a big deal.â
âOf course itâs a big deal! You havenât dated anyone in years!â Ericaâs excitement for him warred with her anger.
âAnd itâs still new.â Derek tried not to look too flustered, but he knew he wasnât succeeding.
âIt might be new, but it seems serious enough for you to invite him to Valâs wedding,â Matthew pointed out, to which everyone around the table nodded, even Derekâs parents.
Derek squirmed in his seat, his belly turning unpleasantly at his lies.
âI think you two look so cute,â Erica gushed. âOh, Iâm gonna have so much fun with you.â
âPlease, donât,â Derek pleaded.
âPlease, donât, babe,â Boyd agreed. âWe canât spend a fortune on the damage youâll end up causing.â
Stiles and Laura came back, with Stiles toting plates piled high with food. He slid one in front of Derek filled with a bowl of breakfast oats, sunny side up eggs, bacon, and blueberry pancakes with syrup on the side.
âI also got you a fruit and yoghurt smoothie.â He brandished a glass at him.Â
âThank you,â Derek said. These were all his favorites. How did Stiles even know that he liked these? Laura probably just told him what to pick outâ
âIs it okay? âStiles asked as he buttered his toast. He was surprisingly a toast and coffee sort of person, and once told Derek it was a habit he got from college. âI think I remember everything from how you usually eat your breakfast at the teacherâs lounge.â
Derek was saved from having to think up a response to that when Cameron piped up, head still lolling sleepily.
âYou watch Derek eat? Are you a stalker or something? Derek, are you dating a stalker?â
There was laughter and teasing all around, which Stiles took in stride while Derek sat there, confused and flustered and trying not to show it.
The private ceremony was going to be for family and very close friends only and it was going to be held in the sprawling manicured grounds. There were beautiful pocket gardens and artful trellises and arches, a little swing set and playbox for the children, and picturesque backgrounds for taking photos and videos. The reception, on the other hand, was at the function hall just a short walk away. It was large and expansive, able to accommodate up to 250 guests, with a bar for beverage service and a lanai area for cocktails and lounging.
Stiles let out a low whistle. âThis place is amazing. And your family owns it?â
Derek nodded. âMy great grandmother bought the land. She wanted to turn it into a rest house where the family can come together. Over the years the family started having other properties, so one of her sons had this converted into an event venue instead.â
âGood choice. Itâs pretty beautiful out here,â Stiles said.
Derek agreed. The family rarely had time to celebrate here, but they always had good memories of this place.
âUncle Deedee!â
Derek smiled. âCC!â
Matthewâs daughter, CC, came barrelling towards him. She was five years old and was blond, rambunctious, and the light of Derekâs life. Derek caught her as she threw herself at him, lifting her in his arms to plant kisses to her cheeks.
âHey, baby.â He smiled widely.
CC beamed at him. She was in a dress which was already quite dirty with dust and grass stains and her hair was coming out of its ponytail, but she was the most precious thing Derek had ever seen.
âUncle Deedee, youâre here!â she screeched.
âWho are you with? Why are you running around by yourself?â Derek asked.
âUncle Nattyâs here.â CC pointed at the figure ambling leisurely towards them. Only then did she notice Stiles and she turned her finger to him. âWhoâs he?â
âItâs rude to point, baby.â Derek patted her hand. âCC, this is my bâboyfriend, Stiles.â
âYour boyfriend?â she asked, wide-eyed.
Stiles smiled warmly at her. âHey there, pretty lady. Iâm Stiles. Whatâs your name?â
CC snuggled into Derekâs arms, looking shyly at their new guest. She rubbed Derekâs beard to soothe herself.Â
âAm CC.â She pointed at his arm. âWassat on your arm, âTiles?â
Stiles had pushed his sleeves up his forearm, showing off his left sleeve. âThese are my tattoos. Do you want to see?â
CC patted on Derekâs chest to be let down and he watched as she scrambled towards Stiles. The man squatted down and let CC tug on his arm this way and that to see it.
As they talked, Nathaniel appeared. He was the most good-looking in the family with dark hair and a sly smile and heartthrob looks. He lifted his ever-present camera and took a shot of Derek and then of CC and Stiles.
âSince when did you get a boyfriend?â
Derek coughed. âItâs nânew. His nameâs Stiles. Heâs really nice.â
âLooks like it,â Nathan said, watching as Stiles made CC laugh.
CC bounced back over to them and held her hands up to be picked up. Derek did so and she leaned in to whisper something, though it wasnât really much of a whisper.
âI like âTiles. Heâs funny and his arm drawings are cool. And heâs pretty.â
âGood to know, baby.â Derek glanced at Stiles, who looked immensely pleased but pretended he didnât hear a thing.Â
Nathan stepped forward to introduce himself to Stiles, but he excused himself pretty soon.
âWe gotta go. C'mon, CC,â Nathan called out. âWe have to find your dad and get you into some clean clothes.â
CC made Derek put her down after placing a wet kiss on her uncleâs cheek. She and Nathan waved goodbye as they walked back to the main villa.
âYour niece is the cutest,â Stiles gushed, smiling at Derek. âNathanâs not bad too.â
Derek smiled. He was relieved Stiles was getting along with his family so far, but it also made his chest tighten.
âHey, Der!â Nathan called out just before he and CC disappeared inside. âDonât forget about family dinner later!â
As if Derek didnât need more problems.
âHave you forgotten about me now that youâre getting married?â
Valerie laughed, and it might seem fanciful, but Derek had always thought his sister had the prettiest laugh heâd ever heard.
âAs if I could ever forget my favorite sibling,â she said.
Derek stepped into her room. âWeâre going to have a riot in our hands if someone hears you.â
âWho would dare call me out on it?â Valerie raised an eyebrow at him, ever confident and bold. She raised a hand to beckon him closer. âOr better yet, who doesnât know youâre my favorite?â
Derek chuckled, feeling bashful even as he moved closer into the room. As he sat down on the couch across from his sister, Valerie turned to him.Â
âHow are you?â
Derek snorted. âWhy are you asking me? Iâm not the one tying the knot tomorrow, finally.â
Valerie snorted as well, rather inelegantly. âPiero and I have been together for many years. Heâs old news. You, on the other hand, have a boyfriend, and thatâs more exciting.â
âDo you want to meet him?â
âI can meet him at the family dinner later,â Valerie waved a hand. âI want to know how you are. Mom said you were asleep on your feet when you arrived last night.â
Derek rubbed the back of his neck. âIâm fine, I promise.â
They chatted for a bit. He and Valerie had always been incredibly close, and she had always been his buffer between the more exuberant personalities of all of their other siblings. Maybe it was that bond that hadnât wanted her to worry, that had pushed Derek into the lie he was now currently living. But he mentally shook those thoughts away. He couldnât falter now. He didnât want to be another thing for Valerie, his Mom, and his family to worry about.
It was those thoughts that Derek clung to at family dinner later that night. He and Stiles had changed into matching red and gray ensemblesâStiles had insisted that couples do thatâand had met the rest of the family. Derek knew his palm was clammy as he held Stilesâ hand, but thankfully Stiles didnât mind and just gave him a reassuring squeeze.
âNice to see you again,â Stiles said to Cora. He chuckled at Derekâs confusion. âShe threatened to punch my lights out last night in case I dropped you on the way to our room.â
Derek whirled towards her. âWhaâCora!â
Cora scoffed. âI thought heâd drop you. He was a skinny dude hauling your fat ass down the hall.â
âCora,â Derek hissed, embarrassed.
Stiles just laughed and tugged Derek close, wrapping an arm around his waist. âI wouldnât have dropped Derek, not when Iâm very, very fond of his ass.â
Derek flushed, both by the proximity and his words. He pinched Stilesâ side, but it only made him giggle.
Cora made a face, but she seemed somehow pleased. âEww, sappy. I canât believe someone is as sappy as you, Deedee.â
âCor, there you are.â Cameron popped up, finally looking more awake this time. âUh, whoâs this with Dee?â
Then Valerie was coming over, looking beautiful and incredibly intimidating.Â
âYou must be the famous Stiles,â she said, giving him a scrutinizing look. âDerekâs told me a lot about you.â
Stiles looked pleased. âHe has? Like what? Iâll tell you everything heâs said about your beautiful self.â
Valerie looked amused. âCome on. Sit with me.â
Stiles turned to him, tugging at his waist. âCan we sit with the bride, Derek?â
Derek looked at them suspiciously. This felt like a bad idea. âNo, because Iâm pretty sure you two will start plotting something the way villains do.â
âAll the more reason for us to sit together,â Stiles insisted as Valerie laughed. âAnd you know any evil kingdom I build will be in your honor⌠and your amazing ass.â
Cora and Cameron burst out laughing. Valerie looked like she had barely stopped herself from doing so. Derekâs face was so warm, he was almost surprised his glasses didnât fog up.
âGod, Stiles, shut up. Go and sit with Val,â he murmured, unable to help the smile that tugged at his lip.
Stiles pressed a kiss to his cheek which made Derek flush even stronger, and he danced away with a cackle when Derek tried to pinch his side. Derek sighed, smiling as Stiles sat down at the table with his siblings, easily getting lost in conversation with them.
Derek watched them, feeling his throat clogging up.
It was just pretend. It really was. He had to keep remembering that.
As the hour passed, Derek witnessed how well Stiles and his family took to each other. Valerie looked utterly delighted with him, as did her fiancĂŠ Piero. Her two-year-old son, Spencer, also seemed to like Stiles, especially when he managed to make him laugh. A jealous CC had popped up at one point, wanting to sit with Tiles,â but leaving when the adult conversation got too boring. Laura and Cora were cackling at every joke Stiles cracked. Stiles, Erica, Boyd and Cameron, Nathan were all exchanging good-hearted jibes with him. Talia and Desmond were sitting with Pieroâs parents, but they dropped by and left laughing at whatever Stiles had said.Â
They all got along so well that Derek thought it had to be some sort of cruel and karmic joke that his family would love the one person he could never have for real. And something about it made his chest feel tight.
âDo you remember that, babe?â Stiles asked, turning to Derek and sliding an arm across the back of his seat until he was stroking his other arm. He looked at him with bright eyes and flushed cheeks.
Derek couldnât hide a smile. If anything else, seeing Stiles enjoy himself was worth whatever discomfort Derek was feeling.
âHow can I forget? You kept bragging about it in the teacherâs lounge,â he scoffed, making everyone roar with laughter.
Later on, as the dinner wrapped up, Valerie tugged him aside with a bright smile on her face.
âI like Stiles, Derek. I hope things work out with him.â
Derek didnât even have to lie this time. âI hope so too. I really do.â
Since the ceremony was going to be an affair with friends and family only and Valerie was a no-nonsense person who hated fuss, the wedding day dawned upon them bright and early and calm. Derek once again found himself in Stilesâs arms when he woke up, and while part of him was already growing anxious, a greater part felt too warm and cozy to care.
Also, he wanted to relish this moment, because he knew it was never going to happen again.
When Stiles woke up, he was his usual touchy and soft self which tugged at Derekâs heartstrings. Room service brought them breakfast and they lounged around a little before getting ready.
âStiles, Iâll go ahead and see Val, okay?â Derek called out as he studied his suit in the mirror.
âAll right, Iâll catch up,â Stiles said, his steps padding on the carpet. âIâll see you at the⌠uhâŚâ
Derek turned to him. Stiles was in his bathrobe and toweling his hair, but he had frozen in place, looking at Derek with wide eyes and pink cheeks.
âIs it all right?â Derek turned in place. He was a bit used to wearing suits from school events and family engagements, but this was one of the fanciest heâd ever worn.
âUh, you look great⌠absolutely,â Stiles coughed. He still looked flushed from his shower.
âThanks.â Derek sighed in relief. âI laid out your suit. I know you canât do your tie, so Iâll do it for you later if you want.â
âTâthanks,â Stiles said as Derek left.
As Derek closed the door behind him, he thought he heard Stiles mutter something like ââŚand back to the shower I goâŚâ but that was probably just his imagination.
He went to his sisterâs suite. His mother was there and his sisters, and they ushered him over to her room so he could see her.Â
Valerie looked absolutely radiant and every inch the beautiful and blinding bride. She wore a sleek, ankle-length, low back gown embellished with lace and crystals and intricate beadwork, and her hair was in a high, artfully messy bun with strands that framed her beautiful face. Derek felt a little choked up at the sight of her.
âHow do I look?â Valerie did a twirl, making the skirt of her dress swirl around her.
âYou look gorgeous,â he whispered in awe.
Valerie laughed, light and warm. She curtsied, which Derek returned with a bow. Her joy was contagious and her eyes sparkled with excitement. Derek held out his arms and she hugged him tight, throwing her arms around his neck. Derek swayed them in place and tried not to feel choked up by all the feelings inside him. It wasnât as if a lot of things were going to change. Valerie and Piero had been together for years and they had a son, but it still made Derek feel a pang in his chest that his sister was going to become someoneâs wife.
When they parted, Valerie took Derekâs face between her hands and pressed their foreheads together gently.
âMore than anything, I hope youâre happy,â Derek said.
âI am.â Valerie smiled. âAnd thatâs all I ever want for you too. When you find your special someone, you hold onto them and donât let go, okay?â
Derek nodded and hugged her tight to hide the sadness he could feel threatening to spill from inside him.
Later, he found Stiles with Laura, who was doing Stiles the honor of fixing his tie for him. Derek was stunned by the sight of Stiles in a suit. It fit him like a glove, and with his artfully tousled hair and the black stud in one ear, Derek felt his heart was in his throat.
âDerek, you okay?â Laura asked, snickering.
Derek glared at her. âIâm fine, I justâŚâ He turned back to Stiles, who actually looked a bit nervous. âYou look great.â
âI do?â Stiles asked, smoothing down his tie. He smiled at Derek. âWell, I think you look better than I do.â
âAs if.â Derek snorted, which made Stiles frown.
Laura looked between them. âOkay. I think Iâm just going to go.â She kissed Derekâs cheek then walked off, giggling.
Stiles was frowning and without preamble, he reached for Derekâs hand and, much to his surprise, brought it to his lips in a kiss.
âYou really need to stop selling yourself short. You look amazing and Iâm honored youâd ask me to be your date this weekend, Der.â
It was sweet. Stiles was so sweet. But Derek had to remember that Stiles was just that way, that it meant nothing. So he swallowed it all down and concentrated on the here and now.
The ceremony was amazing and there wasnât a dry set of eyes in the whole crowd. Valerie and Piero looked ridiculously happy, and twice so when they brought Spencer up to the altar with them, their little boy confused but happy to be included.
After a ridiculous amount of photos and some more tears and laughter, they headed up to the function hall where their other guests were gathered. Derek was talking to the twins in one corner, catching up on their recent activities.Â
âLook,â Cora said, nodding to the dance floor.
Stiles was dancing with Talia, leading her effortlessly around the dance floor. He was a good dancer, but Derek knew that. Aside from being a musician, Stiles also taught students dance. Heâd always said that, being an awkward kid growing up, heâd have loved it if someone had taught him something simple as a waltz. It would have helped his confidence a lot.
He was certainly putting that talent to good use. So far, heâd danced with Talia, Laura, Erica, and even Nathan, who was a good dancer himself. Valerie had loudly requested a dance after sheâd had her fill of her husband. And Derek⌠Derek wasnât jealous. He wasnât. But he and Stiles had yet toâŚ
âTry not to look so into him, lover boy,â Cora teased.
Cameron chuckled. âI think itâs a good look on you, Derek. You look happy.â
âSickeningly so,â Cora added, nudging him. âItâs nice to see you happy, big bro.â
Eventually, the song ended and the twins moved on. Before Derek could contemplate his next move, Stiles plopped down beside him.
âYour family is so cool,â he sounded a bit breathless but happy. âSo big and so cool. And theyâre really hard to say no to.â
Derek chuckled. âImagine my life growing up.â
Stiles grinned. âItâs really great. Theyâre all great. Especially since I grew up an only child, this entire weekend has been a blast.â
Derek felt his smile melt at that. The weekend. Right. Because this was only for the weekend. Because this was all pretend. Once the weekend passed, theyâd go back to their real lives as just friends. After a good few weeks, theyâd break up and Derek was going to tell his family, and itâll be fine. Because this was what they had agreed on.Â
Itâs okay. Itâs fine. Derek was going to be okay.Â
Derek felt something crawl up his throat and the room suddenly felt too small and too crowded. His chest felt tight, like it was getting hard to take in air. He cursed himself for feeling like this. This was all a lie, a game, a charade, pretend, and even if his heart was breaking at the thought of it, he knew this was completely and entirely his fault.
âHey, Derek. May I have a dance?âÂ
The panic receded for a moment and Derek turned to Stiles, surprised.Â
Stiles was looking at him intensely and somewhat strangely. He reached for Derekâs hand and slipped his fingers between Derekâs. He gently led him to the dance floor.
âIâve danced with so many people. Itâs high time I dance with my boyfriend.â
A slow song was playing and when Stiles pulled Derek close, the surprise of it had Derek snapping out from his thoughts.
âStiles?â
âJust a dance,â Stiles murmured, pressing close and resting his temple against Derekâs.Â
They swayed to the music, chest to chest, hands clasped, and arms around each other. No words were exchanged. And when Stiles started rubbing Derekâs back and humming to the music, Derek all but melted.
As they spun around, Derek caught a glimpse of Valerie, who was looking at her husband with love in her eyes.
âWhen you find your special someone, you hold onto them and donât let go, okay?â she had told Derek that.
And suddenly Derek felt tired, felt heartsick and vulnerable and torn open, because he knew this was something heâd done to himself. He couldnât help pressing a kiss to Stilesâs cheek for the last time.
The song eventually ended, and without entirely knowing what he was doing, Derek detangled himself from Stiles, excused himself, and quickly walked out onto the lanai. There were only a few people milling around and it was easy enough to find a corner where he could hide and lick his wounds.Â
But then he felt a hand around his wrist and he turned around to see a determined Stiles looking back at him.Â
Before Derek could speak, Stiles cupped his cheeks, leaned into him, and pressed his lips against his. Derek froze. He couldnât breathe, couldnât move, couldnât think. His heart was beating so fast in his chest and so loud in his ears. He only came back to life when he felt Stiles start to pull away and he wrapped his arms around the manâs waist and kissed him back.
The kiss was awkward. The angle was a bit wrong and they stumbled a little which actually pressed their cheeks a bit too hard together. But it was still a kiss, warm and loving, with Stiles, and he held onto Derek as hard as Derek held onto him.
Stiles was the first to pull away. His face was flushed and he had a fond look on his face that made Derekâs heart skip a beat.
âI like you. Derek, I like you so much. I see it on your face when you remember this stupid deal we made and it kills me that this is how it startedâhow we started outâbut I didnât want you to think that I donât like you back.â
ââŚback?â Derek asked.
Stiles chuckled. âDude, you have the worst poker face ever or at least to me.â
Derek poked his side. âDonât call me dude when you just kissed me.â
âFine, Iâll go back to babe.â Stiles grinned cheekily. âBut seriously, Der, I think your family is amazing and I wouldnât trade this weekend for anything in the world, except maybe me confessing that I like you the moment you asked me to play pretend boyfriends so that we could have cuddled a hell of a lot more in bed.â
âIâm in love with you,â Derek blurted out. âI just didnât know how to say it.â
Stiles softened. âDitto.â
Derek leaned his forehead against Stiles, their noses brushing and arms wrapped around each other. Stiles squeezed him tight and kissed him once, twice, three times, before pulling away.
âNow, come on. We only danced once. I want to see you booty shake, Hale.â
Derek groaned. âStiles.â
But he let a cackling Stiles lead him back inside and to the dance floor. Valerie joined them, heels kicked off and Spencer in her arms and Piero trailing behind. Laura and Cora crashed into them as did a tipsy Erica and suffering Boyd and Cameron. Nathan was taking photos of them all, Matthew was laughing as he swayed to and fro with CC, and Talia and Desmond flew past them all, dancing and laughing.
When Derek asked Stiles to pretend to be his boyfriend for his sisterâs wedding, he didnât know how it would go. Turned out it went even better than heâd dreamed of.
Stiles took a deep breath and smiled. He was in his catering companyâs kitchen testing out a new kind of pierogi. The smell of cabbage wafted through the kitchen, which reminded him of his childhood.
His mother had been a fabulous cook and sheâd taught Stiles everything she knew about cooking, especially Polish food since they were a Polish family. After sheâd passed away, Stiles continued cooking, first for himself and his father, then at culinary school, and finally at his own catering business. He could cook pretty much any kind of food, but Polish cuisine was his specialty.

Swept away I'm stolen
Stilesâ mom leaves when heâs nineteen.
She had become very ill very quickly over the course of a year with a strange wasting sickness, and as queen she had insisted on continuing to serve her people until she was no longer strong enough to do so.
Stiles wishes she would have focused on treating her illness. Before his mother married his father, sheâd been the emissary to the Hale pack, she was a wolf that couldnât transform and so sheâd become an emissary to the king, ensuring that both her pack and the kingdom prospered together. Naturally they had fallen in love.
Derek lay atop of his motherâs grave, near the Nemeton. He felt he needed to share of what had happened lately. The omega missed his mother, but was glad to have a pack and caring alpha.
âHey, mom, itâs been awhile since our last talk,â Derek said. He sighed and then he continued to share with his mom, âI want to share with you the last events.â
âIâm part of Hale-Stilinski, and Stiles is my true alpha, Stiles is keeping us human, unlike the McCallâs pack who lost any sense of morality, I bet some of them doesnât know how to shift to human again, can you believe it, mom?â
âStiles is not like us, werewolves, but he got something unique, he is a spark, mom, I know that he is not perfect, but he is also dealing with demons, just like the rest of us, and he is all mine.â Derek said, feeling his cheeks burn, sheepishly chuckled.

Joining Forces against Dr. Harris
"...and the final project requires that you work in pairs," Harris announced in his usual drone. Boring enough that Stiles nearly missed it. "I have paired everyone up, the list is in the class notes. You can only trade partners, you cannot unilaterally drop partners. I am taking no complaints on the pairings. The homework for tonight is lab three and is also in the class notes. If you have questions, direct them to the TA. See you next week. Good afternoon."
With that, Harris shut down the computer, gathered the notes he had been reading from, and left the room without offering an opportunity for questions. His usual mode of operation.
"What the fuck?" Stiles muttered, logging into the online class system and quickly scrolling to the class notes Harris had obviously put up two seconds before walking into the classroom.
Happy Holidays! đ I hope you enjoy this ficâI know you like fantasy & AUs, but I couldn't for the life of me come up with a fantasy/AU plot that wouldn't end up being a longfic..... Iâm sorry đđââď¸
But I wrote this fic inspired from 4 songs by your favorite artists that you've been listening to recently (or at the time of my ask lmao), so I do hope you like this! đĽ°

like the sun and stars
Derek didn't know the last time he'd been himself.
He didn't know if he even knew how to be himself anymore.
"The bite is a gift," he'd told Scott, but the words had felt wooden, sharpâa barbed stake impaling his chest.
Perhaps he'd said it because he'd grown up hearing that, perhaps he'd said it to convince himself, or perhaps he'd said it because saying it was a curse wouldn't help a panicking, newly-bitten teenager one bit.
Thereâs an elaborate gingerbread house in the bakery window every day the week leading up to Christmas.
Derek stares at them when he walks to work.
The amount of time and energy it must have taken to bake and assemble them is impressive.
He wants to ask the baker why they do it, is there enough love of gingerbread that people buy them up every day, can Derek learn to bake from them?
He loves the smell of the bakery, and he wants to go inside, but every day, he turns away and heads to his boring desk job without ever opening the door. Itâs a whole thing that Cora teases him about when sheâs feeling particularly sharp.
I really hope you like this. Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays!

The Danger Of Snow
Derek loves the snow more than he remembered, thereâs something so peaceful about the cold, stark white mountain surrounding them. Heâs so glad that the Pack chose this as their Pack trip for the year, well the fully for fun Pack trip, since they do also have a conference to attend yearly now that theyâre stable and established. Though that has already happened this year, having been back in June and probably one of their best ones so far.
The Pack has been really making strides since he and Stiles really stepped up to wrangle the Pack into an actual Pack. They have worked damn hard to get to this point, he, Stiles, and Peter have built the Pack up into actually being a Pack. For which he will always be grateful for how hard the other two worked to whip him into shape as well. Honestly, heâs not sure he could have done it without Stiles, or probably even Peter.
Happy holidays :) I hope you - and everybody else - will enjoy this little story.

Awakening
âWhat are you doing here?â a gruff voice startles them and something Stiles wasnât even aware of being wound tight loosens as relief courses through him, confusion robbing him of his voice because why would he be relieved some random dude in the woods tells him heâs trespassing?
He still hasnât found an answer to that when heâs tossing and turning in bed at night and sleep feels just out of reach.
Derek Hale pale, sweating, and bleeding everywhere hadnât been in the cards for the day, and yet here he is, sitting in Roscoeâs passenger seat looking like death warmed over and smelling even worse.
Stiles hits the speed dial and is met with voice mail again. He huffs, hangs up, and calls again. And again, again, again, until eventually itâs answered, though not in the way Stiles wouldâve liked. He hangs up and contemplates making a slightly illegal u-turn but decides against it, instead taking a right, a second and third and ending with a left turn, heading towards the vet clinic.

First Time
Stiles was eagerly waiting for Derek to join him in the room. Theyâd got a hotel on the trip back from meeting with another werewolf pack, something Derek sprang for to probably avoid other werewolf noses from smelling them when they get home, pre-shower other pack funk and probably post-shower sex funk that will require a second shower. That was one of the few downsides to being in the pack, all the wolves knew who was having sex and Erica could be downright filthy when she was calling it out. Heâd already showered off all the other pack scents and was wondering what was taking Derek so long. They hadnât gone all the way yet and he figured itâd still be some time before Derek was willing to bottom, since the horny wolf had somehow mumbled his way through telling him that he preferred to bottom. Something Stiles had no issue with, given that lovely butt deserved all the worship and praise he could lay upon it.
He was honestly considering grabbing his phone from his pants on the floor since heâd been too eager to shower first and left a clothes trail to the bathroom, when Derek finally entered the room, not wearing anything too. His hairy body and set of abs already had Stiles growing hard but he manfully resisted since Derek loved to torture him by having them sleep nude together. âHey nudewolf, ready for bed?â Stiles said.
