With the ending inferring that Sonic’s closest friends are all gonna go off and do their own thing, that really opens up for the next game to explore Sonic’s friendships outside of the Classic Four
So, you know; Blaze, the Chaotix or even (to show my personal bias) Shadow and Silver
Or, heck, even explore Sonic’s relationship with Eggman more (Although, I admit their “distant but still knowing” thing they’ve got going on is pretty special too)
