My future for 2D animation awaits!
By this year, rough animation drawings done on paper with pencil will be scanned into the computer via image scanner with peg bars & imported to 2D animation softwares like Toon Boom Harmony & TVPaint for digital cleanup in several animation studios around the world, including Asian studios such as Digital eMation & Rough Draft Korea in Seoul. The cleanup animation drawings on paper with pencil or pen were scanned into the computer for digital ink & paint in most animation studios around the world since the 1980s, it won’t happen in my future projects when I’m in Los Angeles. In the other side of 2D, flash animated shows & videos on YouTube should switch to Toon Boom Harmony or remain with Adobe Animate. Flash animators will decide when the post-production of the 1rst season of Adventure Time: Side Quests for Hulu & Disney+ is done. Also, the current aspect ratio for 2D animation are & will be 16:9 widescreen (1.78:1). I’m not character animator, I’m a character designer at Cartoon Network Studios in the Second Century Development building for my future projects this winter to early 2029.

What is the only hand-drawn animation done on paper?
For me, it would be rough animation with pencil. After the rough animation drawings are done, traditional animators scan the drawings via image scanner for pencil tests. After scanning the drawings for pencil tests, cleanup artists traced the rough animation drawings on a graphics tablet with paperless technology via Toon Boom Harmony instead of onto a new sheet of paper. After the digital cleanup animation is finished, digital coloring is added before compositing with backgrounds for the final product. It could do better for streamed TV episodes (some reboots used flash animation) & direct-to-video films on DVD & Blu-ray, including the ones that were based on animated TV shows with Scooby-Doo as the prime example. I wish I could abandon cleanup animation on paper at Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California sometime this summer.
